In a discus competition, if Hannah's second throw had been 6 meters farther it would have measured twice the distance of her first throw. Her second throw was 28 meters farther than her first throw; what was the distance of her second throw?

A. 62
B. 64
C. 66
D. 68
E. 70

Let the first throw be x and second be y

2x___y___________________x

2x-y=6 - 1
y-x=28
2y-2x=56 - 2

Adding 1 and 2
y=62

Lets take distance of first throw as d1 and second throw as d2
Given
1st condition d2 + 6 = 2 d1
2nd condition d2 = 28 + d1

Resolving we get  d2 = 62 Ans A

Therefore second throw = 2x-6 (6 less than twice the first throw)
Given,
2x-6 = X+ 28
X=34

Hence second throw = 2X-6 = 2*34-6 = 62

Distance of second throw be S

As per Question:
S+6 = 2x => S= 2x-6

Also S = 28+x
Equating both: 28+x=2x-6 => x= 34

So distance of 2nd throw = 28+x = 28+ 34 =  62. Answer is A

Y+6=2X ......i

Y=28+x.......ii

2X-6=28+x

X=34

Y=34+28=62

Hence 2nd throw was 62m
