Hi Harsh,

My profile is also very similar to yours. I've appeared for GRE and scored 327. A decent interview will fetch you the final call.

For all the general profile, following the conservatism in my estimation, I would say anything more than 645 in GMAT FE or 325 in GRE is more or less sufficient to fetch an interview call.
Since final conversion is dependent on interview, diversity, category etc. It is difficult to comment on that.

Having said that, try your best to get maximum marks in GMAT/GRE, but don't get discouraged by the higher aims, do your best and apply with that score cause there are folks who actually made into the program with lower scores (their other profile aspects might have compensated).

I would suggest you to focus on GMAT/GRE more than any other external certification, unless you're aiming for some high value ones (CFA/FRA etc.). Last moment improvement in profile is difficult unless you get the opportunities by luck.
For example - An international work ex does puts your profile in good shape, but it is difficult unless your job's nature is such.

That's why, the high value item which you can control is your GMAT/GRE, focus on that, once all process is done, you can then go with some certification which might be helpful during placements (AI fundamentals, Prompt engineering, Prodman related, six sigma, PMP, Agile practitioner etc.)

If you can manage any such sort of certification without doing any compromise to your exam prep, go ahead with that.

Bonus tip - start jotting down your achievements in reverse chronological order, and try to assign some number or impact that you've created. This list will be handy when you'll be filling form and giving interviews.

Hi Anjay, thank you so much for offering to answer, it is much appreciated.

I wanted to know, with a general back (no big University education or MNC experience) what GMAT score should one target?

Over & above the score - demonstrate leadership potential outside of work as well. Demonstrate instances of your extracurricular accomplishments as well.

Hi Anjay,

I completed my Engineering in Computer Science in 2009 with 67%. Academically, my journey has been average overall, with 72% in 10th and 51% in 12th. Career-wise also, things were not very smooth in the beginning and I struggled to find the right direction for a long time.

For the last 7 years, I have been working in a coaching institute where I teach Chemistry up to class 10. Along with teaching, I also handle the role of Academic Coordinator. This role helped me understand and develop interest in management-related responsibilities like planning, scheduling, resource allocation, time management, and stakeholder coordination.

Currently, I manage academic operations involving around 280 students and coordinate with a team of 7 faculty members. Through this experience, I learned how to handle people, manage responsibilities, solve day-to-day operational issues, and ensure smooth academic functioning.

Recently, I also got associated with an NGO where I spend some time on Sundays teaching street children. This experience has been personally meaningful for me and helped me understand the value of education from a different perspective.

Now, I want to move towards management professionally and that is why I am preparing for GMAT with a target score of 650.

Hi Sourabh, in your case, since genre are less spikes, the required score would be on the higher side. Consider scoring 655+ for sure.
On top of that, the target industry clarity, the takeaways from the MBA program should be absolutely clear, cause these things will be asked during application process (SoP) and interview.

Hi Anjay,

I am looking for a profile evaluation for the 2027 intake and would appreciate your inputs.
Academics:
• 10th – 95% | 12th – 96%
• BSc Physics – 89% | MSc Physics – 87%

Work Experience:
• 5 years as a Statistical Programmer in the pharma industry, across CRO and FSP roles
• Employers: Cytel, Pfizer, Zifo
• Key strengths: Project management, process auditing, clinical trial domain expertise, strong analytical skills
• People management exposure is limited

Extra-curriculars & Other Engagements:
• Graded Artist at All India Radio
• Freelance carnatic music instructor

Post-MBA Goals:
• Targeting consulting roles, leveraging my data analytics and pharma domain expertise
• Open to pharma/life sciences consulting specifically, given my clinical trial and CRO background
• The MBA is intended to bridge my technical profile into a client-facing, strategy-oriented role

Target Programs (2027 Intake):
• PGPX – IIM Ahmedabad
• EPGP – IIM Bangalore
• PGP BL – IIM Kozhikode
• PGP – ISB

Could you help evaluate my profile and advise on:

1. A realistic GMAT Focus Edition score to receive an interview call at these programs
2. A score that would make me competitive for final conversion
3. Whether my post-MBA goal of pharma/data analytics consulting is a credible and well-positioned narrative for these programs

Thank you for your time.

Hi, your profile looks solid. Good acad background and non engineer profile with good work ex quality already gives you a competitive edge.

Just to get a shortlist, in IIMs, I hope anything above 625 should be enough.

For final conversion, definitely more you score, higher your chances, so atleast try to get 645+ to have a real shot at the final conversation.

Your goal is realistic and actually very well positioned. As a matter of fact your expertise in data analytics and pharma is going to give you an upper hand in the academics part as well.

For ISB, increase the score by 20 pointers for each of section.

These are just indicative and based on my interactions, take these with a pinch of salt and don't discourage yourself from getting 98-99%ile score in FE.
All the best 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻
