Submitted on 10/7, no interview yet.

For those anxious ppl, my brother submitted his app on the ED dealine last year, and got an interview call 8 weeks later.. so hang in there..

Does anyone know if the CBS fat cats are travelling? That might delay things a bit.

I met Linda Meehan the other day at Phoenix information session...I guess she's traveling around the southwest area.

Hi all, please add me in for RD.

I was hoping to get some feedback from a current student. I've been painstakingly trying to schedule a visit to Columbia during this Fall season, with no luck... I'm from the West Coast and have had a particularly busy work travel schedule, and in fact I actually went to NYC in October planning to visit NYU and Columbia on the same trip, but due to work had to cut my trip short a day. I was hoping to go through the Hosts program, but could not lock down a date. Now, it finally looks like I may have a chance to visit on December 10.

I'm wondering if that is too close to finals to visit - the website seems to state that visits are available until Dec 14, so I'd really be squeezing in there. Is that still a reasonable time to go? I would ideally fit in the full day of a class visit, info session, and chat with students.

Submitted on 10/6, just got an interview.

For applicants who submitted on 10/7, I have a feeling that lots of invites haven't been sent out yet. (I think my application is inferior to my girlfriend, who hasn't received an invite)

all the best to all awaiting their decisions!

can any one share the nature of stories they used for essay 2 or some best practises? I seem a lil lost if the theory of "supply demand " and "pricing in commodity markets " that I am addressing is really apt...

hope everyone's enjoying the weekend!

a couple questions:
1) i have my interview next saturday at 10 AM at a coffeeshop. do i still wear a suit? im open to wearing one, but know i will definitely stand out/look awkward.
2) i visited the columbia campus this weekend. the facilities seemed pretty dated. unfortunately, i didnt get the official tour and it was a rainy day. was anyone impressed with the facilities (there were some locked areas i couldnt get into)? did anyone see the law school/b-school area?

good luck with the interview!
my recommendation would be to wear a suit, no matter the location (unless specifically suggested by the alum).
i've been interviewed at a coffee shop, i can assure you in about two minutes you will forget the space and people around.
cbs buildings are mainly uris hall and warren hall (shared with law). you're right in that they are nothing to boast about, but i haven't heard any current student complaining about lack of functionality. in my opinion chicago, wharton and hbs have super duper buildings and facilities.

Looks like I'm due for an answer on Friday then, submitted 9/20. Eeek! It'll be interesting to see how my wacky interview impacted my final result - not that I'll be able to gauge the level of input. Although others have mentioned that the interview isn't that important...

Question on Essay #2.

Essay 2 - Master Classes are the epitome of bridging the gap between theory and practice at Columbia Business School. Please provide an example from your own life in which practical experience taught you more than theory alone. (Recommended 500 word limit)

How did you approach this question? I interpreted it in two ways:

1. Reading the first part of the question, it seems as I need to use a theory, and how I applied the theory successfully through practice.

2. Reading the second part of the question, it seems as I need to find a theory, but then explain why through my own experiences, practice has been better than theory.

To me, these are two completely opposing structures. Can someone please explain? Thanks.

Question - is the status in the Interview Scheduler supposed to say "Interview Complete"? I had my interview almost 2 weeks ago now - is it possible that my interviewer has not submitted my feedback?

Master classes basically give a practical experience that will help you learn better.
So as your 2. implies- find a situation where you had a theory (either by academics, or prevalent notion) and then through your experience you figured out, theory didn't cover the entire scenario, you gained far more through the hands on experience. So it just gave you a fuller (not sure if that's a word) perspective.
