Does anyone else find it interesting that this Kellogg thread is already over 20 pages, more than twice that of any other school besides CBS. Even H/W which already had R1 deadlines today have less than 10 pages. Any guesses as to why Kellogg is so popular here?

Because it's an awesome school (and obviously much better than the other school in this town, whose thread only has a paltry 8 pages).

I actually think it's a bit of a self-reinforcing cycle, there are a lot of Kellogg applicants here, many of whom become Kellogg students who stick around after being admitted. Having a lot of Kellogg students here to answer questions attracts a lot of Kellogg applicants.

I think there's alot of self-selecting. Although applications are a little higher on H/W, they many of the applications are from traditional fields like IB, Big3-Big6 consulting which have alot of MBA grads or applicants. I feel that those people would probably be less reliant on forums since they have that support group on-site.

As for Kellogg/Booth, I do feel there are alot more career switchers going from non-traditional fields into more traditional MBA fields and therefore we don't have that support. I'm the only one applying from my group, I've tried convincing just about everyone, but it's not worth it to anyone else but me apparently.

Count me in for R2 (MMM)

I can't find info anywhere whether there would be prerequisite (statistic/probability) before enrollment. I found something on their part-time page and there are no prerequisites. I sent an email to the adcom office but just wondering if anyone here has info.

I plan to take a course if needed next semester (too busy right now with GMAT and applications)

Thanks!

Congratulations btr81! Sounds like you had a great interview.

When did you submit Part 1 and by when did the school match you up with the alum?

I think i submitted my Part 1 around Sept 14th, and i got the interview invite on Sept 26th. So i guess less than 2 weeks. I believe the time varies depending on your location and the number of alumni in that city.

Thanks bpr! I will wait this weekend out and try the admissions office if I dont hear anything by next week. I am fairly certain there are no alumni in the city I am in. I just hope they don't waive it or schedule a phone interview.

Hi Guys,

Has anybody from outside US got interview call as yet? I am from India and applied on 23rd Sep but have not got any call as yet. Also, I did not filled in majority of the non-required fields in part 1. Now wondering, whether I should have done that.. :(

All the best to those who have their interview scheduled.

In the Chicago-Midway airport going home after my interview/visit yesterday. At the beginning of the interview, I launched into a monologue describing my somewhat non-traditional experience and more traditional post-b-school career goals, hitting on the yet-to-be-asked "Why MBA?" and "Why Kellogg?" questions as I went along. The Adcom was very polite, did not interrupt but asked a few follow-up questions after about 10 minutes. Then we went further into "Why Kellogg?" and I asked some questions about specific campus organizations at the end. Overall, I received good feedback and thought it went really well, but I found myself second-guessing a few responses as I sat in the class the next hour. Maybe they tell everyone that interviews on campus that they did a good job? Maybe not, and I did well - only time will tell.

The class visit / lunch with students / tour was very good and informative, and it was good to meet other prospective students. The tour was mostly walking around Jacobs talking about different aspects of the program rather than the building itself (the student leader himself admitted it was a weak point) but it provided some good info / essay fodder. Also, I had the chance to socialize at "TG" and visit with a 1st-Year friend's KWEST group. I felt very included as a prospective student, and could definitely feel the "fit" factor at Kellogg. All in all, it was a very good experience, and I can't wait to finish my essays and submit the app!

PS - The adcom hinted during the interview that Round One applicants should hear from them before the Christmas holidays, so that's news (good or bad, TBD).

gtg, thanks for the nice interview write up. I've got an on-campus interview coming up right right around the R1 deadline and it's nice to hear about someone's positive experience. As a military applicant, the Kellogg interview will pretty much be my first business type interview ever so I think adcom is the way to go, professional and without many unexpected twists.

Dont knw whether i can say its a great interview. Didnt i say i had cramps in my brain. :-). I had learned to stop analyzing my interview after its over, and its so much more peaceful that way.

Kellogg nearly interviews 89% of its applicants, so i guess i can take it as just one more part of my application which was finished. For others who still haven't received their interview calls, do not worry. Kellogg itself wants to interview each and every candidate, and it might just take a few weeks( in fact they say 6-8 weeks) for them to organize alumni interviews. So i would say wait for atleast 3-4 weeks before sending them a mail. If u think there are no alumni in ur city, then i would infact advice you to go for the on-campus interview( if ur in usa), or mail the adcom that ur willingly to travel to nearest big city to meet with alumni.( if ur not comfortable with phone interview).

My current industry is Manufacturing Automation and ya my career goal is to go into Strategy Consulting. How about u aditi123?

Kellogg's optional essay is narrow and asks you to use it to only explain extenuating circumstances. is ok to use it to highlight a character trait or accomplishment which you haven't been able to in another essay? Certain application guides like Bodine and Montauk recommend using an optional essay to highlight positive areas as well.

n bpr81 - I'm also based in Singapore so am looking to hear on my interview soon as you seemed to have got urs in 2-3 weeks.Am in energy industry at the moment and hope to move to consulting with a focus on energy in the short term and then return to the industry n the long terms.

Personally the way optional essays is stated it should be focused on anything that is important to your application. Given Essay 3 allows alot of room for adding character traits, I would think anything you would add to the optional essay would be farther down your list and should not be apart of your optional essay.

"If needed, use this section to briefly describe any extenuating circumstances (e.g. unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, etc.) "

I think the use of Briefly + Extenuating and a list of reasons that are acceptable would make it seem that the adcom does not you to list anything else.

GoBruins - I'm in for round 1 as well.

Quick question on Essay 3 - how are most people structuring that, i.e., first person or third person? Also, what sort of liberties can we take with regards to the conclusions drawn from certain aspects of the rest of the application? For example, was an RA, therefore is good with people, values community, etc

Any and all advice is welcome...I'm all over the place on this one.

I've also thought about doing it third person as something that would be a little variation to the essays. I'm still undecided on that one, was gonna ask some alums (Isa, Jerz??) what they thought. It might depend on your write style in the first 2 essays. The way the question is written, it wouldn't be too out of lines to start out in 3rd person.

I think with character trait consulting, it is better to explicitly state some traits you want the adcoms to notice, whether directly mentioning it, stating what you learned from it, or through an example. If the adcom draws any additional conculsions it would be a bonus. It's definitely better than someone reading going "why was this line even in here?"
