I just took my GMAT today and I'm kind of dissapointed with it. I really want to get into McCombs and I don't know how necessary it is to retake the test. I'm already behind the group on applying!

Applying(in the next week or so)

640 GMAT (36 quant, 41 verbal). I'm a writing person, not a math person.
About two years work experience, editorial and marketing - specializing in non-profit arts
22 years old
3.6 GPA English, business and technical writing undergrad
I am very confident in my essays (especially since I'm a writer) and in my recommendations.

Should I just get my application in ASAP as is, or wait until January and try to knock my score up a little. I'm leaning towards applying as is and just crossing my fingers at this point!

Thanks!

I think it depends. Do you think you will be able to improve your GMAT score? How much did you study previously? I bet you can improve your quant score if you put in enough study time and use the right materials. If you haven't already, take a look at the Manhattan GMAT series of books.

For those who have applied - how long did it take to process your official transcript? I sent mine in and it was delivered on Monday according to FedEx, but it still shows as missing on th Status Check website.

I would recommend retaking the GMAT for a higher score.

The reason being that McCombs looks strongly on WE. The non-ultra elite programs like McCombs need students with WE, especially marketable WE, so that when the students graduate, they can find jobs. Furthermore, my impression of McCombs is that its a finance heavy school, so there may be an emphasis on quantitative ability. You having an English major with low Quant score and have relatively low WE in non-traditional field may not fit what McCombs is looking for. This is why I would highly recommend improving your Quant score. McCombs is a rolling admission school, so a few week difference will not hurt, so long as you are not applying in March.

Definitely up your quant score. Take as many practice tests as you can, especially the official GMAT practice test (if you haven't already). I was fortunate enough to have seen one question on my actual GMAT that was virtually identical to one asked on their free practice tests.

I think that your personal essays will really help you if you put up a good case as to why you want your MBA, exactly why McCombs is the best school for you, and why you are a perfect fit for the school. Your low WE will be a hurdle for sure, but I was in the same boat (1 year 'post-bachelors' WE by matriculation) and know without a doubt that my essays saved my ass!

Still, if you improve your GMAT I would say you have a much better chance - good luck!

How is it that I interviewed on 11/4 and still haven't heard back yet? Apparently rolling admissions doesn't work the way I thought it would.

It looks like UT does invites in batches.. People that interviewed early had to wait longer based on the data below. Texasorbust to UT2012 is almost a month apart, yet they found out on the same day.

texasorbust (interviewed 10/25 | admitted 12/4)
elcapitan (interview invite 11/6 | admitted 12/4)
USMCCommO (interview invite 11/7 | admitted 12/4)
asianstyles (interviewed 11/5 | admitted 12/4)
smadge37 (interviewed 11/20 | admitted 12/4)
ut2012 (interviewed 11/20 | admitted 12/4)

Same thing happened to me. I sent my transcripts in via certified mail, and show that it was received. In their system it says that my transcripts still have not been received. I am planning to call them on Monday to follow up.

Applied 11/2, interviewing next Wednesday. UT is my #1 choice, wish me luck :)

I know the waiting game is hard. But look it this way, last year 40% of the GClubbers got admitted to McCombs, right now only 22% of the applicants got admitted, I think McCombs probably only reviewed half of the "R1" applicants.

is it me, or are Gmatclubbers getting HAMMERED at every school this year? Are schools tightening admissions to compensate for over-enrollments last year?

For the few schools I'm paying attention to, the interview and admit rate seem to be on par with last year. The decisions are not all out yet for McCombs. I highly doubt there's a 50% drop in admit rate into McCombs from last year to this year.
