I had the same experience with Booth.
they only gave 10 days to have the interview and they did not have an alumni in my country. So I ended up having a phone interview (which sucked).
my advise is not to have a phone interview and try to go london or new york (as this is your lifelong dream it would make sense to make the spending)

lucky NYU sent my interview invite a while ago so I had time to have my visa for uk.

People, I was lucky to get an invite the other day. However, I am also from Eastern Europe and my passport requires a visa, basically, for any country, but Ukraine. I have called the interview hotline and was told phone interviews are rarely granted/only in extreme cases (whatever that means). Please advise. NYU is my top choice and lifelong dream - I would hate to miss this chance. Anyone here facing/faced similar obstacles this season? Any ideas on better ways to handle this without alienating the AdCom?

I honestly think your situation counts as an extreme case. The visa thing is out of your control = extreme case, and they want you since they sent you an interview invite.
Besides that though, I'd definitely try to expedite that visa. An in-person interview would be so much better.

Good Evening Everyone

I am posting this comment to try to help my friend. You see, I have a friend who religiously checks this forum to the point that it is a disease. I have decided to call the disease "Forumitis" - it is when you check the forums and constantly hit refresh over and over and over again. To you help everyone recognize this disease, here are some of the symptoms:

- Making statements referring to refreshing the boards
- Making arguments and statements beginning with "looks like some ppl..." or "the boards said..."
- Loss of productivity at work
- General lack of hygiene
- Staying in on Friday and Saturday night to hang out with friends from the board
- Even hitting refresh while on the toilet
- Or flat out denying they have a problem

The best way to combat this is to recognize it early and sent them to therapist to get help. How do I know all this, it is because I suffered this in the ED phase. Now that R2 is coming up, I am starting to see other people suffer from this. So, please if you yourself is suffering from this or you know someone who is, please get them help. Please feel free to PM me if you need extra advice. Remember, its normal to check it a few times a day, but hitting refresh is not OK. I just hope this message reaches my friend before its to late.

Good Luck to everyone.

Everyone, thank you for your prompt responses. I will try approaching the embassies ASAP (not too optimistic there). My fear is not ending up with a phone interview, but having no interview at all.

So what you're saying is that when they say we'll hear a decision in three weeks at the end of the interview they really mean one week? :)
Did your interviewer also suggest it could be three weeks before you might hear? Was the one week turnaround a surprise?

Yep...I am logged in 24/7 at work and at home, with the occasional refresh.

It's kind of interesting seeing the very minor adjustments they do to that page...I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it was only recently they added "On or Before" to Initial Notification. And I think they recently added that Address Line 3 field, but I could be wrong. I know...I'm insane. But hey, I know I'm not the only one now!
