Yup, have been to campus a number of times. Indeed the adcom staff was personable, nice, and helpful. Tim in particular was great!
Allow me to recap (in summary form) my original points. Also, these are (obviously) just my view of how things went. Your mileage may vary.
1) My interviewer was terribly unpleasant. I met 2 other people (in person) that had equally unpleasant interviews. I don't mean "i screwed up that answer" unpleasant, but rather "I thought the inquisition was 500 years ago and in spain" unpleasant. Luckily it sounds like others were spared this fate - particularly gmat clubbers.
2)The school has a great atmosphere, student population, curriculum, and reputation. When it comes to student communication and, Yes, marketing materials, I don't think they compare to other schools I have interacted with. In particular Vanderbilt - which is in the same tier - just blows UW away in terms of communications and marketing. But, since I agree that UW is a great choice, and a great value, I am choosing to attend Foster!
3) I don't really think it is an either/or choice. UW can be a great school and STILL have areas to improve in.
My final two words of wisdom (the wisest things I will probably ever say)
-You can't judge a book by it's cover, but PEOPLE DO. Thats why they put pretty covers on books.
-->Translation: lets encourage them to put a nicer cover on foster.
-The optimist sees the glass as half full. The pessimist works to get a bigger glass - and fill THAT up.
-->Translation: Sure things are great, but that doesn't me we can't make them better. Lets all be pessimists!
