Unlike that of human beings, who waste away when they go without food for long periods, hibernating bears exist for months on only their excess fat.
we are comparing Human beings to hibernating bears, therefore the use of "that of human beings" is wrong and creates a meaning error.
therefore we can eliminate option A
(A) Unlike that of human beings, who waste away when they go
wrong comparison
(B) Unlike human beings, who waste away when they go
this is the correct option!
(C) Unlike human beings, wasting away when going
(D) Dissimilar to human beings, wasting away when
we use verb-ing modifier phrases to modify clauses
we cannot modify nouns therefore the use of the verb-ing word phrase is wrong!
(E) Lacking similarity to human beings, who waste away when
Lacking similarity is redundant we can just use "unlike" instead.
