Could anyone explain why B is wrong? Is it just wordy?

Unlike the belief of the non-academics involved that the panel proceedings are subterfuge for discrimination, the academic peers of the professor under review are better equipped to evaluate the contributions and performance of their colleague in the review of potential termination due to neglect of duty.

a. Unlike the belief of the non-academics involved that the panel proceedings are -wrong comparison between belief and peers.
b. Although the non-academics involved were of the belief of the panel proceedings being -"were of the belief" --> not looking good.
c. Contrary to the non-academics involved believing that the panel proceedings are -believing?
d. Even though the non-academics involved believe that the panel proceedings are -Correct
e. Even with the non-academics involved believing that the panel proceedings are -believing?

B can be discarded for following reasons:-
1) wordy
2) use of BEING
3) BELIEF..
what is being talked about is a CLAUSE after belief, so belief should be followed by THAT.
It can be belief of a person, belief in god, but belief that he is the best....

Answer is D.

D option shows the correct comparison of peers.
B is wordy. C and E option incorrectly uses the word believing as the rest of the sentence is in simple tense.
