Dear Zeeshang,

Thank you for being a student. I have a couple of questions:

1. Have you completed the e-GMAT courses - SC, CR, and RC.
2. What are your scholaranium scores?
3. When did you get the V22 score?

Once you provide the above, I should be able to provide you some concrete suggestions.

Regards,

Hi mzeeshang224,

Since you've been studying for just 1 month, it's possible that you just have not put in enough time yet. It's also possible that the combination of resources that you're using are not a match for your personality and learning style. Before making any changes though, I'd like to know a bit more about your goals:

1) What is your goal score?
2) How have you been scoring on your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
3) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Hi mzeeshang224,

Defining your goal score is an important part of the process - and a 640+ score goal is reasonable. I still need to know your exact Quant, Verbal and Overall Scores on EACH of your CATs though (not just a general range of scores). If you can also include the approximate date that you took each CAT, then that would also be helpful.

Dear Zeeshang,

I am not sure what your strategy is. Your current verbal score is 30 percentile and yet you are taking mock tests hoping that your score will improve by taking mocks. You take mocks to build up your stamina, and fine tune your timing. I dont think those are the core issues here given that you are at 30 percentile. Fundamentally, where you lack is ability. Here are a few questions that you need to answer:

1. How do you approach a sentence correction question? What all steps do you go through? List the same in detail.
2. When you falter in a Sentence Correction question, which step do you falter at?
3. Do you spend enough time on your mistake to ensure that you dont repeat the same?

If you are doing this then you should be continuously improving. Looking at your results, I am afraid that you probably are not doing the same. Take a look at these two success stories below to see how these students improved and improved really fast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Wlm8uX4EWA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc-9WO-4b3Q

What should you do next?
1. Take an SC, CR, RC ability quiz in Scholaranium. This will give you a baseline of your individual sectional abilities. Please make sure that you are mentally fresh while attempting these quizzes.

2. Determine the area that needs the most work and work on it. Note, knowing the concept is just the beginning, you need to be able to apply the process. Look at this link to understand how to use Scholaranium.

Lets get some good concrete data and then move forward and help you ace the test. Its just a test after all. As long as you work hard and follow the process, you should be able to improve.

Cheers!!

Hi Rajat,

I have just taken one of the Scholaranium's verbal ability quiz and scored as below:

Verbal Accuracy Score = 67% (SC - 67%, CR-77%, RC-55%)

Verbal Ability Score - 68% (SC - 68%, CR - 80%, RC - 57%).

With these statistics, can you please let me know if I can correlate this verbal ability score to a PROBABLE score on the actual GMAT test.
I know the actual score could depend on lot more factors, however if there was a 90% confidence interval of the score correlation to GMAT, it would bring about better insights to achieve a target score.

With all the full length mocks that I have attempted till now, I have been scoring consistently as below:

GMAT PREP 1 - 670 (Q50, V31)
GMAT PREP 2 - 650 (Q49, V29)

Veritas Mocks - 610, 600 (Q44, V30)
Manhattan mock - 610 (Q44, V30)

I am looking to score at least a 700 which would mean I get atleast V35 at the minimum to touch the 700 base (assuming i score highly on the quant side).

Your insights to score correlation from scholaranium will provide right direction towards a good score.

Thanks Again,

Vijay

Dear Vijay,

Given your ability scores, you should be able to score V35 provided you are able to sustain a 3.5 hour test. Can you take a look at the recording of Strategy Session 2 and tell me what your Total Productive Time is for the first 20 questions and the last 21 questions for the GMAT Prep tests. I am assuming that your GMAT Prep attempts are quite recent.

Hello mzeeshang224,

If you want to increase your overall verbal score you may actually need to target specific areas for a while first. You might find that Sentence Correction is an area to see quicker results because it tests the same areas. Look at your previous practice tests and questions and see if you can identify a trend. Are you consistently missing questions with subject verb agreement, modifiers, verb tense, etc? If there is no trend I'd simply do a review of the most commonly tested areas. The Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning sections may require more time to see improvement. For those you'll need to change the way you approach questions and your thought process. Still, if you become more familiar with the question types in these sections and learn strategies for those question types, there's no reason for you to not see improvement in those areas as well.

I hope that helps! Best of luck in your studies!

Dear Rajat,

I am unable to locate the live webinar sessions in the e-gmat portal. Earlier I remember seeing them under general strategies. But I don't see them in my account.

Also I tried to trace it out in the https://e-gmat.com/blogs/

The videos does load, but the PPT does not load up. So I am only able to hear your voice without any presentation.

Can you tell me where else I could find it or any previous recorded sessions as it would be difficult for me to attend it live.

Vijay

Dear Vijay,

Write to support. Ask them for the recording of the Webinar that was held last week. Ask specifically for the repaired recording.
