Hello what is the likelihood of getting 2 MSR sets in the test as many of my peers who took the test recently (Aug to Dec 24) actually got just one
Hi NoeticImbecile,

I think everyone gets only 1 MSR set that counts towards their score, and the only reason anyone would see 2 MSR sets is experimental questions.

Only those people who don't get any other kind of experimental questions (DS, GI, TA...) will see 2 MSR sets. In other words, relatively few test takers will get more than 1 MSR set.
That's really interesting. At the same time, since they do need to test MSR questions regularly, the implications are that some significant percentage of test-takers, perhaps 10 percent or more, will get two MSR prompts.

So, anyone taking the test should be ready to see two MSR prompts.

Hi NoeticImbecile,

I agree that it is unlikely, but it's still something you need to be prepared for.

How do we deal with such a situation if it's two MSR's and an MSR at the end of the section?

It’s generally a good idea to plan around 8 to 10 minutes for each MSR set. In most cases, you should see both MSR sets before your 15th question, though of course, bad luck can still throw in a surprise.

One thing you should consistently practice is staying a little ahead of the clock, so you’re not forced to skip an entire MSR set. You can usually save some time on easier DS and G&T questions to build that buffer. But if you still end up getting an MSR toward the end and you’re already running behind, then instead of blindly guessing everything, try to quickly read through it in 2 to 3 minutes and attempt the questions that look more doable.

That said, there’s honestly no single perfect strategy here. In the moment, you’ll have to make a gut call and try to maximize your score based on whatever you think you can reasonably get right.

Hi AditiDeokar,

Two MSR sets, with one right at the end of DI, can be a problem, but as test takers, we shouldn't try to build our timing strategy around every edge case. If we do, we'll most likely end up underperforming on the earlier questions, which could very well end up having a greater (negative) impact on our score.

Since we don't know what the question distribution is going to be until the section is over, in some cases, as hr1212 pointed out, we just have to do the best we can. For what it's worth, although I don't have any hard data, I still believe that relatively few test takers see 2 MSRs. Even on GMAT club, it's just not something that comes up very often.
