Given that there's like 2 billion Indians and Chinese taking the CFA these days, it's hardly an indicator that you'll be going into finance...

To add on to Alex's reply, you will have to demonstrate strong work experience, typically in some form of leadership roles, for you to be competitive for the Cambridge MBA. Since you are only applying for 2012 entry, you have some time to find challenging work projects to demonstrate your leadership and teamworking strengths.

Just to give you some background, Australians and New Zealanders make up 5% of this year's Cambridge MBA class. That's higher than at least one of the schools that you mentioned -- in fact, we have, in absolute numbers the same number of students from those two countries as schools that have larger student classes. Our Australian/New Zealand students come from a wide range of backgrounds :- one is an engineer like yourself (but on the oil and gas side), others worked in law, medicine and management training. Most of our Australia/NZ graduates go on to work either in the UK or Australia, so the network is strong.

Conrad, many thanks for your comments. I've taken your comments re: work experience on board and will be focusing on solid work experience over the next 3 or 4 months.
