GMAT 640 (Q48, V 29)
Essay 5.0
WE 5+ years in Banking and Insurance.
Got rejected from below schools , can someone tell me is 640 with 5+ WE is a bad score ?
1. Notre Dame
2. McCombs
3. Vanderbilt
4. Mays (A&M)
5. Fisher

I think the schools prefer a more balanced Quant and Verbal score. They look for an 80/80 split.
48 in quant would have been around 82nd percentile.
But 29 would have been around 52nd percentile...

Your GMAT likely wasn't the key issue as it's in range for the tier of schools you applied to. Honestly, it's hard to say what happened, but chances are you could've done a much better job on the essays and/or interviews if your GMAT and work experience was in line (which given what little you wrote, I'm guessing your raw profile wasn't the issue).
