Hey there good sir,
You have a nice profile there. You come from a good, well-known school, with good grades, a great GMAT, good volunteer work. Basically you've got all the bases covered. It's also a bonus that you don't work in IT. It'll make your application sound a biiiit more unique, which is gonna be important, given the tough huge and competitive applicant pool you are coming from. If there is any way for you to strengthen the uniqueness of your application, you gotta find a way to do that, because that is one of the most effective strategies.

Other than that, I see you have participated in this leadership program, which is great. But do you have any real management? It would be awesome if you did, and if not, you should see how you can make the most of the experience you DO have.

Other than that, your list is a fair one, although maybe a wee bit ambitious (you don't have any safe schools). I think that these schools seem to me to be more of less your level, and I wouldn't necessarily count on a scholarship, but anyhow, I'd suggest you go to the best school you get into, scholarship or not. It pays off in the end, you know.

If there is any other way I can help out, just let me know,
Best,
JF

Hello Jon,

Thanks for your prompt response.

I am still pondering over the ways to make my application unique. As far as managing a team is concerned, I have managed a group of volunteers in tasks like fund-raising, awareness rallies, going about a social problem etc. I mean it has got more to do with work outside my professional experience. Further, I had the opportunity to lead college basketball side and coordinate fests in college. The flat-hierarchical model at my organization asks for a good number of years before one can become a manager. In a fix!

Could you please suggest me which schools should I be targeting. Realistic ones!

Regards,
Bhavani Mishra

P.S. I just corrected my AWA score(typo earlier)- does this make any difference?

Hey Bhavani,
Well making your application unique is really one of the toughest things to do. It helps when you have some really unique experiences in your profile (you know, saved twin brothers from a shark attack or something like that :) ). Although, to be honest, most people don't have stuff that exciting in their profile. But see what you can dig up. The other way to get uniqueness is in your language and approach in your writing. There's no "magic bullet" here which will bring you salvation, only cleverness and lots and lots of hard work (and maybe a bit of help).

Your leadership sounds petty good. It doesn't necessarily have to be at work in order to count. So that's good.

Good luck!

Best,
