Profile Evaluation : GMAT 660 , Q50 V29, IR 6 , 7 years exp

Question

Hi,

I received a low score of 660 in gmat. Please help me evaluate my profile. Before taking the gmat I was targeting at top 20 B-schools, but now I am not sure which schools to apply to.

Below are my details:

Acads: Bachelors in Computer Engineering and in top 1% of the graduating class. 72/100.

WE: 7+ years , 3+ years in USA and 4 years in India. Working as Lead Architect. Worked for Telecom, Banking, Healthcare sectors.

Extras: Many awards during college time. Employee excellence award twice.

Target schools : Insead, LBS, HBS, SGB , IIM-PGPX

Any chances ?

Hi,

Looking at your GMAT score, it is going to be a huge challenge. The best option would be to try retaking the GMAT and get a 720+ score. You still have time to prepare and retake the GMAT. Hey there,

I'd love to help but I'm going to need a lot more info! What do you do at work? Do you manage teams? What kind of impact have you had? Are you involved outside of client work? Within the firm? In the community? Why do you want to get an MBA?

A lot more than just a GMAT score goes into assessing your chances at any program. That said, you're coming from a super competitive pool and you're a little on the older side. So, regardless of the above, you're probably going to need to retake the GMAT. A 720 is pretty average for your applicant pool and the schools you've listed aren't known for letting low GMAT scores slide easily.

Below are some more details , Please let me know if I have missed some imporatnt info needed to assess profile.

What do you do at work? 
: I lead a team of engineers and automate business processes, and design applications.

Do you manage teams? 
: I manage team as a technical lead; However, the team reports to different managers

What kind of impact have you had? 
: Many employee excellence awards, managed client relationships.

Are you involved outside of client work? 
: I work for the firm and the firm outsources work to Client, so I manage client engineers as well.

Within the firm? 
I work for the IT division of the healthcare firm

In the community? 
Less community exp, though participate in community event within the firm.

Why do you want to get an MBA?

Want to move to IT management role

Hi,

Your work profile is pretty decent and impressive. But GMAT Score is very low if you are targeting the B-Schools you have mentioned above. Based on your current GMAT Score and profile, I would suggest you to target B-Schools like University of Iilinois -Urbana Chaimpaign, Emory Goizueta, Kelley and University of Rochester Simon.

If you are planning to apply B-Schools you have mentioned above like HBS, Stanford, INSEAD and LBS, you have to retake your GMAT and score at least 700+.
