So I just took the GMAT today and was pleasantly surprised by my score. I know its still a little too early to apply for me but I would like some advice concerning what should be my best strategy to get into Top-10 schools.

Work Experience
My goal is to switch into Management Consulting hopefully at an MBB or possibly go into PE. I know that is kind of broad and ill-defined but Im still trying to figure myself out. I do like Consulting but the lure of PE is fairly enticing.
With all this in mind how should I approach the next few years and what are ways to help me standout when it comes to application time and also build a story? Also given my current standing when should I apply to BSchool?

- B.S Chemical Engineering at Ohio State- Graduated with Summa Cum Laude (~3.97/4.0), Graduated December 2013
- GMAT- 770 (50Q, 45V, 8 IR)- Still waiting on the writing but Im not overly concerned since my understanding is its not really considered
Target Schools:
- HBS
- GSB
- Wharton
- Kellogg
- Sloan
Work Experience
- Currently a Technology Analyst (Consulting) for a Big 4 firm going into my 6 month with the firm . Obviously in such a short time I have not been formally promoted but I am currently on a well known and nationally recognized tech implementation and in the short time I have been on the project my responsibility has tremendously increased. I am a lead on one of the design elements and currently coordinating with an international team through the process of designing and implementing my piece. I believe if all goes well I should be up for promotion in the next yearly review cycle. Additionally I have been involved in office events taking a lead role and coordinating several office initiatives and currently working on two whitepapers.
- Prior to my full time position I interned at ExxonMobil and interned several times at a large Midwest Refiner. All together these internships yielded about a year and some change of work experience.

Your numbers are great; no need to think about them from here on. Kudos to you for planning ahead. You could apply in 2 years. Your career seems to be progressing well -- keep doing what you're doing. Your challenge will be standing out, seeming interesting. This is where your extracurriculars can help. Consider taking some passion you have (the more unusual the better) and starting something with it -- an NGO or a business. If it has social impact on some level, that's good, but almost more important is demonstrating leadership and "scale"/magnitude with it. Start something ASAP so that in 2 years' time they'll look at it say "Crikey, admit that SOB." Think big.
