Your b-school selection is alright. I am just wondering why you would want to get into consulting and then Product development. With 5 years of pre-matriculation work experience, you can just get into product / project management after MBA.

Hi All,

I recently took the gmat and my score breakdown is as follows -
Overall: 690
Verbal: 35
Quant-49
IR-6
AWA-5.5

I have overall 5 years of work experience (will have a total of 6 years by the time i join). I have decent acads at school and college level (10th-94%; 12th-89%; BE. ECE - 77%). Currently m working in the role of a QA lead, and have led some significant projects for my team. I intend to pursue an MBA in Operations/Information system and apply to the following programs for fall 2015-

University of Texas - Mccombs
Indiana University - Kelley
University of Maryland - Smith
Schulich School of Business - York University
Tepper School of Business - CMU
Georgia Tech - Scheller

Can someone please suggest if the score/profile is competitive enough for the above mentioned schools.

Thanks

Hi,

Your GMAT score and your profile looks good. With 6 years of work experience and a team, will definitely help you to showcase your management skills. The best time to apply would be Early decision round R1. This will increase your chances of getting the admission. Make a note of all your achievements in your work and also outside. This will help you write good essays. Your school selection looks fine. You can also analyze your chances here: https://goo.gl/RZg44t

All the best!!

Hi Namita,

Thanks for replying, its just that i've been into QA profile for 5 years now, so i assumed that a for a very short term goal (say just after my mba), getting into a client facing role like Business Analyst/IT consultant would help me further hone my business/communication skills. Post that as I mature in the organisation, I would like to get into some Product Management/Development profile.

Hi neha,

Yes i do intend to apply in R1 rounds and currently I am working on my applications. It was just that I was feeling a bit apprehensive, considering my GMAT score is low considering the highly competitive pool that I belong to - Indian/IT. So just wanted a bit of an advise there if I stand a decent chance at the mentioned schools.

Thanks
