Namita, Karthik,

Thank you for reviewing my profile.

Namita - As of now, I have around 32 months (~2.5 years) of work-ex as a Power Systems Engineer. It will be another year by the time (if at all) I join an MBA program and hence I will have 3.5 years of experience by matriculation.
I had not included HEC Paris in my list as it has Energy conc in the EMBA program for which I believe they will want much more experience than what I have.

Regarding 'Energy and Utilities' field, I am looking to get into a consulting position in the short term. In the long term, I plan on starting a company of selling energy products/services.

I have kept General Management/Finance as a Backup to Energy/Utilities sector as I think it would compliment my EE knowledge for running a business when I venture out with my own company or even when I get into consulting.

I know I don't have a solid 'Why MBA' answer like most of the people but I am working on getting it straightened out.

I can understand your position - and I think it's fairly natural.

Here's a simple algorithm - work backwards. Group your immediate career possibilities into as many categories as you have. Now look at the careers part of the program's website, and see which companies fit into each category that you have. Follow this up with a linked in search for students who've studied at your particular university and gone on to work at your particular company.

Read their job description - see if it looks fun - for a few years. If yes - there you have it. If no, try next category.

This procedure will ensure that your stated career goals actually appear realisable to the school - which is important.

And if you enrol and then change your mind? That's fine - it happens all the time.

Cheers,
Karthik
