Hi,
I am a software professional from India with over 40 months of total experience in IT.
Few months back I gave my Gmat and scored a 710 (Q49 V38) on the exam.
While i am still trying to explore my options, someone has suggested me to go for
MIS program.
The reason he suggested this to me was that MIS program falls under STEM category, which is a prime focus for US these days.
He suggeseted to take a one year MIS program and after a working for another 2-3 years go for an MBA (which is my ultimate goal) so as to increase my employability odds for getting into a good B-School.
The point worth mentioning here is that i have done my Bachelors from a not so reputed University (tier 3), so somewhere even I feel that it is important to add a brand name to my profile to make up for Bachelors University and to aim for the top tier B-Schools in coming years.
While my long term goal is to get into top layer of management, i just want some more insight about this option. Is it worth doing an MIS when u finally want an MBA from tier 1 college.
PS : Looking for an MBA program in US while i wont mind going for MIS in Austaralia as well.
Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, I wouldn’t suggest doing an MIS mainly to become marketable for MBA programs later. The main reason is that it only reinforces the Indian-in-IT stigma that is a huge burden because of how over-represented this group is in top MBA programs. Moreover, you should only pursue a graduate program if you're sincerely interested in the content.
Rather, I suggest taking steps to familiarize you with business and particularly business aligned with your goals. To improve your academic profile, you can take one or two accounting classes (a good online program is fine) and earn A’s.

Just a while ago someone was suggesting me to take up CFA as well, however i found this very unrealistic.
So, I was just wondering if you had any particular courses in your mind that would strengthen my application.
