mbathrowaway - what have you done since graduating and when did you graduate? Having 5 years of work experience right now distances you a lot more from your undergrad GPA than if you graduated in 2014. You use the past tense to describe the business you started while at school (which is something very impressive to have on your resume) - I think your app is going to hinge on your story/what you're doing now/GMAT. With a 750 the GMAT portion of the equation is covered.

To answer your question - Yes a person like yourself could get into a top 10 business school (with a great story).

Best,
Leah

I graduated from an Ivy League with an undergraduate GPA of ~2.3.
Interdisciplinary major with mostly focus in Economics/Business courses.
750 GMAT.
I started a service related business in college with 300k+ in sales from almost every part of the world and managed ~150 workers + thousands of clients.

The low gpa is the result of a combination of one of my family members passing away during my sophomore year and then not going to class/complications with antidepressants the rest of my time there.

What are my chances of getting into a top business school if any at all?

mbathrowaway,

Congrats on doing well on most things that matter :) Your work experience will speak volumes about your capabilities. Great job on the business, especially so early in life. What are you doing now?

Yes your GPA is low, but it looks like you didn't have a choice - explain your situation clearly, and you should be fine. Your stellar GMAT should offset it by a lot. Feel free to schedule a free consultation with us any time.

Cheers,
Karthik

Hey there,

I'm going to disagree a bit with the other posters. A great GMAT is definitely a step in the right direction, and you clearly had a reason for your GPA, but a 2.3 is too low to explain away. Have you worked to build an alternative transcript at all?
