TOEFL Score: 113
Nationality: Indian
College CGPA: 8.14 (B-Tech Computer Science, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology)
Work Experience: 4 years, Sony India Software Center Pvt. Ltd.
Role: SAP ABAP Consultant
Extracurricular Activities and awards(only recent ones):
1. Working for an NGO for the past 1.5 years and part of Sony India's CSR team.
2. Member of the Sony India Running team. Ran 2 half marathons and many 10k races (almost every corporate races)
3. Responsible for training the freshers in SAP ABAP (This year I am the PIC for the ABAP Bootcamp starting next month)
4. Participated in every cultural events of Sony, including the Annual Sony Business Meet and won 3-4 team awards ( I was captain in 2 occasions)
5. Was one of the few freshers to be selected for Mid Range Planning (MRP) -2012
6. Was a member of the core committee for MRP-2012 which had multiple roles and responsibilities
7. Won 3 awards in the last 4 years( 2 promotions till date).
8. Provided a few idea in Sony India's innovative initiatives
9. Provided idea in ERP initiative/ Zero defect initiative which got selected last week (to be implemented soon)
My target schools:
1. Duke, Fuqua
2. Virginia, Darden
3. UNC, KF
4. Michigan, Ross
5. Tuck
6. NUS
7. NTU
8. ISB
9. Cornell, Johnson
Please let me know if the above target schools are realistic and please add schools which might be within reach.
Please let me know if I need to retake the GMAT as Indian candidates have high scores.

Thank you for the detailed post. You have some nice experiences at Sony and some decent extra-curriculars. That said, most of your experience, including the outside of work experience, is related to Sony. These types of activities are great, but are discounted somewhat vs initiatives you seek out on your own.
You have a good chance at those schools, but a higher GMAT would help you for Fuqua, Tuck and Darden. As you mention, you come from a competitive set and your academic ability will be judged based on your GMAT as well as undergrad school and GPA. Your GPA is good, though not from the most prestigious school.
What type of leadership roles have you had at work and what are your post MBA goals?

Hi Ayushman,
Working with Sony is a definite plus point in your profile, although I would have liked to know more about your work experience there. What is your career progress like and what were your key achievements in the past 4 years? A mistake that applicants often make- they focus too much on the extra curriculars, while pushing the work experience details to the back ground. An MBA is professional degree, and therefore, your work experience has more importance - remember this and don't relegate your work exp. behind your extra curriculars in the applications.
Coming to the rest of your profile- Indian applicants have an uphill task applying to the top US b-schools with an average GMAT score. You'd be a lot better off applying with a 730+ score to these b-schools. The other option is to tailor this list down and add more b-schools in the 25-40 ranking range if you want to apply with this score. A 700 score is more likely to work at NUS, NTU and ISB, ofcourse, upon submission of a great application.
