Hello Everyone,

I'd appreciate if someone could help me get an idea of my profile and how it would look to admission committees.

Profile details:-
Age:32
Gender: Male
Education: Bachelors in Engineering (Electronics and Communication) with 7.9/10
College: Top 15 (in India)
Work Experience: 10 Years (overall)

1. Worked as a software engineer with Telecom software giant in R&D division for 3.5 Years;

2. US telecom giant and worked in newly acquired software division. (2 Yrs)
Roles & Responsibility:
a. Its primarily cross-cultural team India-US-France. Needed lot of co-ordination to work and led a small 3 member team.
b. Presented a paper in Company's technical Journal (Bell labs)
c. Liaised between customer (on product deployment) and R&D (our team). Interaction also includes connecting all Sales folks as well.

3. Niche Chip maker (Israeli company), which just opened their office in India. (2.5 Yrs)
Roles & Responsibility:
a. Part of 2 member team in India. (Only 2 in India)
b. Managed teams in China and Israel. Traveled multiple times to these location to train and acquire business knowledge.
c. Handled various roles including BD, Sales, Marketing and technical assistance.
d. Generated $1M + revenue; Worked with various customers including Industrial, Defense, Aerospace and consumer.

4. Working in a Boutique technology company (past 2 Yrs)
Roles & Responsibility:
a. Managing Sales and Marketing for Consumer portfolio (including online mkt) - [USD 5M - Business line]
b. Well versed in B2B and B2C marketing handling BD, marketing activities for entire product line
c. Presented multiple Business cases to management to invest in Trending Techs.
d. Regular visit to APAC region for Sales meets and Tech shows.
e. Alliance mgmt with various companies (mostly fortune 100) and Tech consortium.

Extracurricular:
1. College - Editor Space Club; Placement cell - Representative;
2. Closely associated with an Trust for Educational sponsors.
3. Level 2 in French;
4. Traveled extensively (on work) to China, Israel.
5. Ambassador for Previous companies and Alma mater

Assumptions:
1. I hope to score in the range of 700 - 720 !! (Preparation - are on the way).
2. Will apply only for R2, due to work and other commitments.

I hope you have fair idea about my profile, I have few questions.

Queries:
1. Do I have a chance to make into Top 20, Is my profile inline with the schools expectation.
2. Is my experience a hindrance? (10+ yrs)
3. I am primarily looking for US schools, Pls suggest schools which are good for General Management and Consulting?

Thanks for posting a detailed overview of your background.

1- yes top 20 are within your range.

2- the experience won't help you to be honest. That said, people do get in with 10+ years though many opt for an EMBA. Have you considered that? Depending on your leadership roles at work, it could be a better idea for you and be more rewarding in the end. I'm happy to discuss the differences between the two, or you can read a blog I wrote about this.

I think you are going to have to play the experience card carefully - there might be some disadvantages. Your biggest challenge is going to be convincing the ad com that what you are looking for is a regular MBA and not an executive MBA.

The school itself will be happy to have you - but might be wondering why you want to study there, now.

Top 5 might be a stretch. Outside of that is a fair application.
