I originally started undergrad as a Business Major, however, I wound up transferring to another University where some of my math credits didn't transfer over properly. Instead of going to college for 5 years and graduating with a Major in Business I decided to major in Poly Sci and minor in business in 4 years. I really enjoyed my business classes, however.

After graduating in 2010 and working in various fields, now in the nonprofit world, I've been thinking about going back to school and getting an MBA. I guess I'm thinking about going for an MBA in the fall of 2017, as applications are mostly due this fall for 2016, and I haven't begun to study for the GMAT. My dad has suggested that perhaps I take a class to refresh my memory a little, and help me decide if I do indeed want to commit the time and money to go back to school.

Is there any advise, process, and/or class suggestions that anyone has to help me decide if biz school is right for me? My main interest is marketing. Is there a good online class that anyone knows of that would be a good class to take to get me feet wet again? I suppose taking an actual class at a University here in D.C. would be the best idea, but i believe most classes start next week. What's the best way to get in touch with a biz school professor? Should I just contact a schools admissions department to ask questions? Are there any good meetup groups in cities that would have people for me to talk to about this?

Any information is helpful, thanks.

Hello there!
So I think you can boil it all down to one question really: What are your GOALS? And will an MBA help you reach them? For example, if you wanted to be a marketing manager, or say go back to non-profit in a leadership position, then an MBA is perfect for you.

My first suggestion is to look for example at the Kellogg grads and see where the marketing people went, and ask yourself: is this the kind of place I want to be?

And if it is, then you have your answer!

Do you know how I can find information on where the Kellogg grads of Northwestern went after school? I could only find the industry that they wound up in (i.e. tech, real estate, consulting, etc.).

Kellogg publishes a report that lists each company that hires 3+ graduates and how many they hire per year. Send me an email and I'll send it to you if you don't find it.

You can also do a LinkedIn search to see where grads ended up.

Take Harvard's pre-MBA course online. That is $1500 - not too much. Then sit in on an actual class possibly even at GWU or Georgetown. See if you like the atmosphere. (The GWU part - please take for credit if that is possible)

The admissions department should help you get in touch with professors and students.

Commit after that.

Karthik
