Hi Critical Square team,
I am an applicant from Pakistan planning to apply for the FT MBA 2016 program and wanted your advice on one of the most crucial aspects of the process - school selection. Would highly appreciate if you could review and provide some feedback on my profile below and suggest target, reach and safety schools.
GMAT: 740 (Q50, V40, IR8, AWA 5)
GPA: 3.73 BBA Finance Majors from IBA - premier business school of Pakistan
Cleared all 3 levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam
Work experience:
4 years of WE in Finance (till 2016 admissions) in Unilever Pakistan, one of the largest FMCGs and top employers in the country. Joined as a Management trainee, spent a couple of years in Customer Development Finance and currently working as Assistant Manager Supply Chain Finance. Have had experience leading cross functional teams on game changing company projects including implementing a new online based claims management solution and rolling out materials governance framework to enhance accountability and forecast accuracy - awarded formal recognition on both projects. Currently leading a team of 4 to implement a comprehensive financial controls framework in Supply Chain. I can further quantify the impacts if need be.
Extra curricular:
Under Grad:
Elected on Executive positions in Media and Publications society and Economics club - pioneered competition-centric workshops for both clubs; Winner of the IBA National Documentary Competition, conducted a fund raiser and served medical supplies during coastal floods
Post Grad:
Training underweight, less privileged teenagers at a local gym (was severely underweight myself and went through a life changing fitness transition)
Imparting PC gaming advice and promoting e-sports (being an enthusiast) on the largest online Pakistani gaming community
Goals:
My short term goal is to go into management consultancy - doing so will help build business experience across functional areas and industries. In the long term i aspire to be an executive for a global technology company or start a tech based business of my own.
Based on my profile can you kindly advise on the Target, reach and safety schools i should keep in sight? Being an international applicant i aim to apply no later than R2 for the 2016 MBA FT program.

I assume you're targeting schools in the US? Without reiterating your qualifications, I think it makes sense to apply to a couple schools in the top 10. Assuming you have the bandwidth and desire to apply to 4-5 schools in R2, so with that said I can see you going after the likes of Kellogg, Haas, or Booth. MIT would be a nice fit, but to me that's more a stretch. You could definitely give it a shot, but it's going to be the toughest one for you. To diversify your list, you could also reserve 2-3 schools in the top 10-20 such as Fuqua, Goizueta, or Darden - all schools that will still help you achieve your short term goals.

Yes i am only targeting schools in the US. After doing some research i had planned to apply to 5 schools in all; 3 in the top 10 namely Wharton, Haas and Booth. I think Wharton would be very tough - along the same lines as MIT i believe while for the remainder 2 i was targetting Fuqua and Tepper to diversify. What are your views on this?
Also i would highly appreciate if you could comment on the coherence of my short and long term goals keeping in mind my background and work experience.
