Question

Hi,

I am about to get passport of another country in 2 months and I am planning to apply for intake in 2017. In this case, B-Schools will consider me candidate of which country (my old country or new one) during application review?

I am confused because legally I will join from new country but I have all geographic personality factors, network etc from old country.

Hey there,
Well you will report both citizenships on your application, and usually it works to your benefit (meaning its good that you have the possibility to work in more countries)

Thanks for your reply JonAdmissionado , My first country is India and I am applying for US colleges (yes I belong to overrepresented pool

). So once I will get Australia Passport, can I sell myself as Australian and improve the odds.

Rohitmanglik, You will technically be considered a citizen of your new passport country (i.e., when characterizing your nationality, the schools will consider you to be a citizen of the new country). However, in terms of their admissions decision, when evaluating how much diversity you bring to the class, you get the benefit (or baggage

I would say your nationality and the candidate bucket you may be tossed in can be seen as two different things. The school will recognize your nationality but will still consider you based on your experiences/background which will align more closely with other Indian applicants than Australian applicants. So you will still need to focus on standing out given this over-represented group

Being an Australian citizen will help you as it adds to your profile for sure. That said, as mentioned above, the schools will know who you are and what your background is so it is not as if you can avoid the Indian over representation by going to Australia.
