Please help me narrow down the list of b-schools to apply to (no geographical preference)
Profile:
Gender - Male
Age - 25
Nationality - Indian
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra
Year of Graduation - 2013
CGPA - 7.92 or 79.2%
Work ex - 34 months ~ 3 years
I worked as an Integration Engineer in Ericsson for 18 months. Then I switched to ZS Associates (Sales and marketing consultancy)to work as a Business Operations Associate.
Extra curricular:
- Self taught guitarist
- written a few motivational poems (vinamra9.wordpress.com)
GMAT score : taking the GMAT on 25th July and expecting 720 +- 10
Post MBA goals :
-Work with a consultancy for a few years and gain more experience
-Start my own firm eventually

Thank you for the detailed post. How have you enjoyed ZS? It has grown quite a bit over the years and clients of mine have really enjoyed it there. First, it is good that you made the transition from engineering to consulting! You mention you want your own firm, but what kind of firm are you envisioning as of now?
I recommend looking at schools such as Columbia, Michigan Ross, Darden, Duke Fuqua, Yale SOM, UCLA Anderson, NYU Stern and potentially higher depending on how you do on your GMAT.

- As mentioned already, the transition you have made is pretty good. It also however puts the onus on you to connect the dots and ensure you do not lose the benefit of the experience at Ericssion in which case, the experience may come across as fractured. Think about how you match up or exceed those who have been with ZS for 3 years instead of less than 1.5 you have been for instance.
- For reasons mentioned here, we refrain from making gut-based school suggestions. The post here should help you get a sense on how to go about doing this.
- Higher the better is the mantra on GMAT. Ideally push for something north of 730 if possible. The longer term goal needs to be cooked further - seems more as an after thought rather than something you can defend. Entrepreneurship is a high risk, high gain thing so tread with caution there.
