Thanks a lot for evaluating my profile. My profile goes below.
GMAT: 710 (Q-51, V-35)
Grad School: 3.40/4, MS in Computer Engineering, University of Florida; Received scholarship, a 50% tuition waiver.
Undergrad School: 8.80/10 (top 10%) from a regional engineering school in India, B.Tech in Information Technology
Additional continuing Ed courses on project management and risk analysis (SUNY Binghamton) and MOOC
WE: 4+ years as a software engineer in a large healthcare IT company in midwest (Received multiple performance awards and one promotion with outstanding rating)+ 2 years as a system engineer at an MNC in India + multiple programming internships (accumulating almost 12 months) during grad and undergrad studies.
EC activities: blogging, tutoring, mentoring junior programmers.
Indian Male in midwest; Age: 30; On H1B visa; Staying in the US for 6+ years; 4 languages.
Post MBA goal: Product management/ Consulting
Target: Michigan, Duke, Cornell, Kellogg, Booth, UCLA, Virginia, Insead, and IMD.

Thanks for sharing your details with us. Since you call out specific schools, I’ll address my thoughts on them head on. Many of the schools are going to be stretches for you including, Fuqua, Kellogg, Booth, and INSEAD. Out of these programs, I’d recommend identifying 1 program amongst Kellogg, Booth, and INSEAD and then 2 programs from Fuqua, Ross, and Darden. Cornell, UCLA, and IMD could be included as well. You’ll also have to split some programs out for R2, but that will depend on your preparation thus far and where you are in the process.
In talking about your goals, I think you need to hone in on specific path. Product management is very different than consulting, and you need to be clear on what your vision is for yourself at your target programs. Also, what about your long-term goal? In addition, what can you tell me about your leadership? Anecdotes for how you led and influenced colleagues and citizens in your community will be critical.
While AdComms expect you to want to switch career paths, you have to develop a logical argument for wanting to do so and convince them why you’ll be successful after your MBA. This is the story component that is often talked about, and I’m struggling to see yours based on what you’ve shared. I think there is a lot of potential for you if you’re able to iron out these details within your application.
