Hello Experts,
I took my GMAT yesterday, scored 680 (Q 47, V37 ), IR -7.
The reasons are many for scoring below the magical number : could not attempt last two questions in quant, was thrown 3 questions on parabolic function (was not sure of the concept, so 3 guesses here) and one weird question (I googled to even get a hint on that kind of question, no information available).
My last two scores on unused Mocks on Examprep Pack 1 : 720 (Q50, V 38), 710 ( Q 50, V37).
Both the mocks were taken last week, and were taken in exactly similar exam conditions. In fact, I did face a little interruption in one of my mocks.
So looking at my progress, I was hoping that I would touch at least 700.
Nevertheless, a little on my background to evaluate my profile :
Age :28
Ethnicity : Indian
Gender : Female
Work Experience : Around 8 years
Positions Held : All were management positions since beginning, progressed each year with a promotion. Current assignment is Head of Operations, leading a team of 45 professionals.
Industry : Hospitality
Community Engagement : I have been teaching underprivileged children, have sponsored a child for his education, have been feeding (distributing meals) at least 5 people each week in my personal capacity.(I am not sure if it counts). Volunteered for Make a Wish foundation.
Additional Information : I am an avid trekker, have solo trekked in Himalayan Range. Also a biker by passion. I was awarded Personality of the year in grad, also ranked 7th for academic performance at national level. Was chosen, by voting system, to be Chief Proctor for girl's hostel.
I have tried to list just key pointers about my profile, which may help to evaluate my profile better.
Experts, do you suggest a retake? I am looking at Top 10 schools, though particularly leaning towards USC/UCLA.

Your profile sounds awesome, but that's not really even a factor here.
The question is, do you think you could do better? It's never about are you good enough, or will your profile put you through.
It's all about making everything the very best you can. There's no minimum standard it's just about showcasing your Brilliance in your application - and having a good GMAT score so that if there's an equally brilliant Indian woman with your background, and it's a tiebreaker, you have a higher GMAT that she does.
I would say that you're getting a little bit high on the work experience, so I would recommend that you do move forward and apply this year.
There's nothing wrong with round 2, and I recommend that you put your complete emphasis on GMAT for the coming months, and apply round 2 no matter what, reapplying next year if necessary.

Thank you for your quick revert.
I strongly believe I can push the score to 710-720 range, if I am able to continue the momentum.
Regarding my background, I am one of the fewest women leaders (in the country) who has reached the same level (not boasting, but that's the current dynamics in my industry). I am also one of the youngest to reach this level, since it usually takes atleast 12-13 years along a normal progression route. I did pace up my career progression by achieving 4 consecutive promotions each year (which isn't a usual norm).
I forgot to mention this factor earlier -
International Exposure: My industry is more people oriented. Hence, to lead in my industry, one must have strong people skills along with technical skills . I have collaborated and led culturally diverse teams. My superiors have been expats. I would have one year of full time International work experience by the time I start my course.
Further on my background, its imperative to tell my whole story in brief, providing a holistic view about my profile. I intend to include the details in my essay as well.
I belong to a family that has seen a transition from a state of wealthiness to a state of bankruptcy. This transition happened during my school days, the consequences were severe (I can list out details in personal space, forum may not be the right choice) . The consequences had an extreme positive impact on me as a person. I evolved as a person scouting for resources since childhood, held classes for a form of art in 8th grade to earn some money, scouted for scholarships to sustain my education at the best school. The transition to normalcy phase has continued for years. Overall, the experience has been enriching. Actually, its only this year I feel that I have reached a comfortable financial position in order to ensure my family does not have to compromise on their lifestyle when I have to take a break for 2 years.
Having said that, I am relentless to ensure that I take my GMAT score up, so I don't make the score a deciding factor for my application.
However, I do also feel that I can utilise my this time better in packaging my application rather than preparing for GMAT again.
Hence, the confusion to do or not to do remains!!
