Apologies for beating a dead horse but my question remained unanswered.
In terms of "class diversity" do Adcoms look at your Citizenship (nationality) or is it more ethnic (race) based.
As in does a Chinese American or Indian American or British Japanese get lumped into the regular American / European pile, or will adcoms throw them into the dreaded Chinese / Indian "pool" to select interview offers from.
It seems like most top US business schools do prefer to have a majority US based class, and would be real helpful if anyone had any insider info about this. Do MBA programs have a target quota for US Citizens, and do they lump all the "non-URM" ethnicities in one pool to choose from.
Edit, I browsed around and found this on USC's webpage:
DIVERSITY
Women 32%
International 32%
Underrepresented Minority
(of domestic pool) 13%
So good news for US based folks looks like some top schools DO put non URM minorities in the same pool.

Schools will evaluate all aspects under the citizenship and ethnicity bucket as they put together their classes. They are trying to put together classes that are diverse as this fosters better learning in an increasingly global and diverse business world. Now I don't believe schools truly have quotas as these percentages change every year. For example Kellogg last year admitted their biggest number of women ever. However, schools are actively focused on creating the right mix within their student community so they are highly aware of where their students are from and what their experiences are pre-MBA. Ultimately you must be qualified to be admitted so that should be the most important thing to focus on, you can't control the make up of the class so I would not spend much time worrying about it, just focus on putting together the best application possible
