I'm an Indian female engineer, with past work ex in R&D and having founded my own tech startup.
I was wondering whether I would fall in the overrepresented category of "Indian software engineer" or would the R&D/ startup be a sufficient differentiator?
Would greatly appreciate your thoughts! Thanks very much!
Not an expert -
Still here are my two cents. (Experts might correct my view as well :D)Adcom picks the profile and this is how it goes:
Engineer? okie fine... but is it IT? oh no not IT again. All right lets see on the following factors:
Female - Yes! Great - Percentage of female candidates would increase. Good to show on Pie chart on website.
Own Startup - Cool, not all of those engineers have it.
Well well well, this profile is fine but does it also have 3 more things?
Age - is the candidate young? (Average age of the class profile needs a balance).
International experience - Great if candidate has it. (Upto an extent, Startup compensate for not having international experience but if candidate has both then great).
GMAT score- How awesome would it be if such a candidate also helps our college to have HIGHER AVERAGE GMAT SCORE.
With all of these things - Get admit with scholarship.
With few of these things - do well in apps and in interview.
With just IT profile and NOT STELLAR GMAT - OVERREPRESENTED POOL! - Ding before Ring
