Hi,
This is Tareq from Bangladesh. I am immigrating to Canada and want to complete MBA in Canada. I have 10+ years of experience in Financial Services, specialized in Operations Management and Technology designing/implementation. I already have MBA from Best B- School of Bangladesh. But as that is a localized one focusing on theoretical aspects, and does not focus on Canadian business reality, I want to peruse another MBA.
Now my recommender thinks below two as my weakness-
• I need to improve my presentation skill for top management. He thinks I am a good communicator for my juniors and peers, but need to be improve how to deliver message to top management in précised and non-technical way.
• One of my strength is to try every possible way to make something happen. But that sometimes makes me spend too much time on something which should have been left earlier. He thinks I need to improve on this.
Would appreciate your opinion on how these two will be seen by Adcom.

Hi Tareq, what I see here is somebody who's really in your corner and has taken the time to observe you and really knows you. So I think this is going to be extremely positive as it comes across to the Adcom. It's not just some superficial fluff it's real **** and it is based on this person's observation. I always tell applicants, no one is going to be fooled into thinking you have no weaknesses. So you may as well be completely transparent about them so that you gain authenticity points. It's those weaknesses that make others open themselves to you so it's actually very powerful to be vulnerable. I mean that said, if someone had a criminal record I don't think that would be an awesome topic, but for this kind of stuff, people are actually going to get there MBA to rectify these types of things...to really become more polished, and these "weaknesses" show that you would really benefit from an MBA. It sounds like you need to be more succinct in some of your delivery for top-line summary, and also that you need to balance persistence with practicality. Both of those things I think are wonderful weaknesses, to be honest with you. I love how specific they are and that it isn't the same generic crap like you are too giving with your peers or whatever. I think that it's going to go over very well.
