Should I Cancel my GMAT score

Question

All:

I took my gmat today and scored a 710 (48 Q, 39 V). I am planning to apply to top 15 schools such as northwester and dartmouth. Do you think I should cancel my score? what are the pros/cons?

gmat750please Unless you belong to an overly representative crowd (Say an India IT Male) the score is on healthier side. I would suggest you to check average score of GMAT on your target B schools and be on safer side if the same is 15-20 pts higher than school average. If you think you can improve (get as ESR instead of trusting your guts) then you must do so. B schools take in to account your best score, so you shall be good to apply.

It makes sense to keep this score(as 710 is a decent score - 91st percentile) 
You should try and better your score on the second attempt. As far as I have heard, 
a vast majority of the b-schools look only at your highest score.

When you are applying to the top 15 schools, they tend to look at the overall profile
It is important to understand that the GMAT is only one small part of the application.

Hi gmat750please , The 710 is a decent score and you may retain it. Schools always consider the highest score among a host of other things which include your overall profile and essays. Thus, you do not need to worry about canceling your score. All the best with your re-attempt!

Thank you for your post. Ineed, your GMAT score is on the healthy spectrum of GMAT scores. If you think you can improve the score, however, I recommend that you do. Your target schools (especially those on the single digit ranking spectrum) have high GMAT average scores. Tuck's average GMAT is 722 (with an average GPA of 3.51), and Kellog's average GMAT is 732 (with an average GPA of 3.6). Your candidacy will depend on multiple factors, and a high GMAT score does not guarantee entry, but you increase your chances with a higher score.

You do not need to cancel this score at all. 710 is a nice strong start and your Quant is great. However, if you are aiming for the top 15, I would very much prefer to see 730+ to make this an easier process for you. There are a lot of unknowns here so 730 is a ballpark figure but a lot could depend on your demographic, undergrad GPA, etc. You might benefit from a free consultation to go into detail on the other factors to consider.
