Dear Experts,
I have recently taken GMAT (offline) & was able to score 760 (Q50,V42). While I was happy with my overall score, it was heartbreaking to see only 2/8 on my IR scorecard. I am now wondering if the IR score will become a point of rejection during B school applications & this is where I need your help. I am not very keen on taking the GMAT again since I scored 760 this time.
I am targeting the following schools -
ISB
INSEAD Singapore
HEC Paris
London Business School
Here are my questions -
1. Do you think I should take the GMAT again & try for a higher IR score?
2. How do b schools in general perceive a poor IR score against a good GMAT score?
3. If a b-school accounts for the IR score, what are some strategies I can take to mitigate the impact?
4. How soon do you think I should start writing my applications if I am targeting one of the above schools? I have collected 2.5 years of work e
xperience so far
Thanks in advance!
Hi Ramandeep0121
Thanks for asking

We often get this question...
There is no definitive answer!
Most schools will look for a minimum of 4 in the IR. BUT, they (especially the schools you have mentioned) might just look the other way (ignore the IR) with the high GMAT score you received.
My advice - if you don't want to take the test again, don't!
and now you have two options
1. Address the issue - use the optional essay to explain what happened with the IR... (something in the lines of "my 760 score represents my academic ability. when the IR section started, I lost some time due to X...")
2. Don't address it! and hope whoever reads your application is so impressed with the 760, they completely ignore the IR and moves on to be wowed with your application (yes, there is that part too)
I think I addressed in the above your questions 1-3
In regards to question 4. this depends on your profile. with 2.5y you are eligible to apply to all schools (you will have over 3Y of experience), but as I don't know anything about your profile (academics, extra-curricular activities, and professional experience), it is impossible for me to assess if you should apply this year or wait 2-3 years for more managerial, international, and client-facing experiences
Feel free to send me your CV and any additional info to

GODO LUCK!
