In IIM-A/B/C's one year full time MBA, less than 5% of students of the batch are from core government sector i.e only Central or state government. (Here I am excluding students from PSUs/Public sector banks etc.) So does it mean it is extremely hard for folks from core government background to enter one year full time MBA of IIM-A/B/C?

No No No...
Don't go simply by the number of such candidates in batch. The real reason behind this low number is that very few candidates apply from core government background. On the other hand, IIM-A/B/C want to maintain maximum diversity in the MBA batch, so in reality there are greater chances of such candidates to get selected. In fact other candidates like Indian male with IT engineer work experience, who form the largest chunk in every batch have lower probability of getting selected simply because of very high number of applications....So going just by the numbers, the candidates having core government background have greater leverage over other common profiles.

However, i have seen that aspirants from core government background sometimes need guidance/review in proving overlap between their previous work experience and corporate world.I was also in the same boat some time ago, working as an officer with the Govt. of India. But, I did MBA from one of the best colleges in India, quit my job and successfully moved on to join an MNC.

So, I can assist you in the following stages of your MBA journey-
1-Clear doubts if you are still in two minds - security of Govt job vs uncharted territory of Pvt sector
2-How getting job in pvt sector is so different from taking entrance exams like Civil services, SSC CGL etc.
3-Consulting on which MBA colleges to target for in order to make smooth transition
4-Profile evaluation after you get GMAT score
5- Essay / SOP preparation
6- Mock interviews
7- What to expect once you get admit in any IIM/ISB. The placements process, roles and companies which you can target

Hi Codewarrior

I just saw your post at Gmat Club and thought to discuss a little before going further. I am a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate 2008-2012 currently working as Assistant Director/Assistant Works Manager at one of the Defence Public Sector Untertaking under Ministry of Defence. I am a Class I Gazetted Officer of the Government of India selected twice through UPSC ESE, one of the toughest entrance exam for Engineering Students to cater Technical Services for Government of India. I have worked as Senior Section Engineer for Indian Railways (Ministry of Railways), Assistant Naval Store Officer for Indian Navy (Ministry of Defence) and now as Assistant Director/ Assistant Works Manager for Ordnance Factories (Ministry of Defence). I know it sounds confusing hence in short, I would say that I have been mostly a Government servant.
Currently, I am looking after Research and Development (R&D) and Marketing and Export (M&E) at Ordnance Factories and I have been mandated with the task for development and marketing of Troop Comfort Equipment. I have, with the help of my Team, developed some 10-12 Troop Comfort Equipment for Armed Forces and there are some 5-7 Design Patents under my name. These developments and marketing can be translated into potential figures.
Now, the point I wanted to discuss with you is that I recently only decided to go for an MBA hence started preparing for GMAT ( less than 3 months) and scoring around 650 only in GMAT Prep Tests and considering, I wanted to apply by Round 2 only and wanted an M7 admit as I am looking for Entrepreneurship career in my future, by which date I should have my GMAT Score. I am considering to use your services. I am hopeful that if I give one more month to my preparation I can score 720-730. Also, what should be minimum GMAT score I should target for within this short time?
To be frank, I decided very late and considering my age (33 Years) I don't want to extend application by next year.

B.TECH Aggregate Percentage: 74.42% (4th Topper of my Class) I think my GPA would be 4.0 as per WES.
Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, INDIA
I was District Topper in 10th Class (92.8%)
Second Topper of 12th Class (83.4%)
 GRE SCORE 30th July 2012: 1350/1600 OR 322/340
QUANTATIVE – 800 / 800 VERBAL – 550 / 800 ANALYTICAL WRITING - 3.0 / 6.0

 SAT Score 23rd Jan 2010: 1750/2400
QUANTATIVE – 650 / 800 CRITICAL READING – 500 / 800 WRITING – 600 / 800

I am a First Generation College Student as my father and mother didn't attend college and I have hell of a story to tell as I have struggled a lot especially financially.

My only request will be if you could guide me a minimum GMAT score required and minimum time required for processing application using your service I will be done with my GMAT and focus on my application.

Regards

Kuldeep Kumar

Hi kuldeepkrlhd,
With recommendations from multiple Govt. services including a Col (Indian Army), Commander (Indian Navy) and a Regional PF Commissioner, I have been fortunate to help my clients showcase their achievements to get into their dream MBA Programs with 97%+ successes.

1) Your stats look quite flattering, and you seem to have a story which polished well, can help you go places.
2) A GMAT prep of 650 on ETS prep, may turn out in an actual score better or worse by several points.
3) Your age may be a strong challenge for 2 year, Full time programs in the US. If by M7, you meant the top 7 in the US, you may actually have to look at schools more realistically. Can help you choose 1-year FT programs which work better with your profile.
4) As far as minimum time required is concerned, my clients have secured admissions after a total work on applications for a much shorter time, generically, 2 - 2.5 months is quite sufficient. Given however, the application process doesn't occupy you Full Time, you should actually start working on it, simultaneously working on your GMAT prep.

Please ping on my LinkedIn, and schedule a 1:1 discussion to answer your questions and assess your profile. Apart from the 50+ public recommendations on LinkedIn, many of my clients from schools including INSEAD, Duke, Tuck etc (with profiles like yours) are wary of putting in their recommendations publicly, but happy to connect with individuals looking for advice.

Hope that helps
