My cgpa for b tech is 4 (from iit kharagpur, biotechnology department major, no minor), I have done internships but am unemployed right now (so no professional experience to show for for an mba program), my gmat score is 665 (93rd percentile) (Q87 V81 DI81) (percentile score Q94 V67 DI89). I can get recommendation from my profs but my professional recommendation would be from start up owners and not big companies.

Given that I have no professional experience, I was suggested to apply for MIM courses and not MBA. But I wanted to ask a broader audience what programs and schools I can apply for and legitimately get in. (Everyone said MIM so I kind of started to hope to get into HEC paris Masters in FInance program, so i also want to know if that's feasible, apart from everything else).

Hey, kaushal.sakshi

You have several promising options with your strong academic background from IIT Kharagpur, impressive GMAT score, and relevant internships. Your career goals and other important factors are vital in choosing the right business schools. Because of this, recommending specific schools right now would be more guesswork than anything else.

The MiM vs. MBA debate is always a hot topic for many applicants, and this article can help you understand the differences and make a more informed decision.

We’d love to understand your profile better to help you shortlist schools. Feel free to schedule a profile evaluation session with us to discuss this in detail.

Hello kaushal.sakshi,

Thanks for writing in.

With your current case, you can apply to MiM programs; however, you should look at widening the list to include a larger number of such programs; the HEC MiM is very competitive and one needs to balance the risk of applying by including more programs.

All the best!

Hi kaushal.sakshi,

Your strong academic background, including your B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and GMAT score, position you well for competitive programs. While your lack of professional experience might be a factor, your focus on academics and extracurriculars can be advantageous.

  • MBA: Despite your limited work experience, some top MBA programs like ISB in Inda consider strong academic profiles and potential. Explore schools that value your academic achievements and extracurricular involvement.
  • MiM: MiM programs often prioritize candidates with less work experience. However, your strong academic background and GMAT score make you a competitive applicant.

Hi kaushal.sakshi
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, an MBA without experience does not go hand in hand. An MIM would be the right option as of now. In case you would want to go for an MBA, I would recommend that you apply with 3-4 years of work experience. An MBA would definitely offer broader options when compared with an MIM.
