Requesting for a profile evaluation -
Demographic: 26 year old Indian Male
Education: B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT (2020 passout)
Work Exp: 4+ years in total
1. Worked for 2 years in a Data Analytics firm in Hyderabad, India. I received multiple promotions and was at a mid-managerial level towards end of it
2. Currently working (2+ years) as a Data Analyst Consultant for an International Organization in Copenhagen, Denmark
Test Scores:
GMAT FE - 675 (Q86, V80, DI84)
TOEFL - 112
Extra Curricular:
During my bachelors, I was part of an aero-modelling team and eventually led the team as captain in an event held by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) in Van Nuys, California.
I was also part of the Core Organization Committee of my university's technical fest.
Post MBA Aspirations:
After coming to Europe, I have realized that most of the job market is full of people with a Master degree and that give them the edge while applying to jobs. I intend to stay in the same field, i.e., data/business intelligence, but ideally a higher level. Additionally, a specialized Masters will enable me to apply for higher level roles in my current organization which are currently locked for me.
My target was always to get a Masters in the data field (Business Analytics/Data Science) but recently while doing my research I have realized that many of those courses are intended for people who are quite early in their career (around 2 years). So now I am a bit hesitant. I am still not very keen on an MBA, unless its a specialization in something data related. Looking forward to hear if anyone has come across candidates with such a dilemma before.

Hi,
Usually doing a masters or an MBA is the last time one is studying in their lives, so its a good strategy to approach this education with a longer term perspective. Where do you want your career to be in the next 5/10/15 years and what skills and network will be relevant for you during those years?
If you want to remain in more technical roles, then a master's may serve the purpose.
If you want to be in more business-oriented positions, then an MBA will help more. Your class network and access to the alumni network will also change accordingly.
With 4 years' experience, you may want to move into more business-focused roles- these will be better attained through an MBA. Although, do note, that there is some bit of overlap in the positions you will find through and MBA or through a Masters. For example, you may still become a consultant at a top consulting firm through both routes, but the salaries and the kind of role may vary (check this up).
The good thing is that most MBA programs give a lot of importance to data because data has become a necessity in every industry. So even through an MBA program you will have a ton of opportunity to refine your data skills, take data related courses in context to business, and find yourself job opportunities in data-focused roles. As an admissions consultant, we have worked with more and more applicants already working in data, ML, AI etc. who want to get an MBA and then continue working in data oriented roles, so I am speaking from experience.

I was in similar shoes a while ago - 3 yrs exp, IT job in my hometown hyd, and a 750 gmat score. You are thinking in the right direction for the most part. I would also encourage you to think about the different paths you might be interested with in the analytics space. Would you always prefer to be feeding insights to teams making decisions? Or would eventually want to be leveraging those insights and become the decision maker? Do you like data alone? Or do you like data as a means to making meaningful business changes? That should help you get a sense for whether MBA will be a good fit for you. I can see you either growing vertically, or moving into adjacent roles like product management (I am a PM now - so happy to chat about that).
