Hello,

Thank you for your reply!

I am also considering applying with a GMAT waiver to Cornell's Tech MBA program. Would that be a better option than applying with my GMAT score?

Hey folks, would really appreciate a review of my profile!

Demographic: Indian

Undergrad GPA: 3.9, BS Computer Science from a SUNY Buffalo.

Work experience (Total 3 years, 4 years by the time classes start):

1.5 years at a NYC based start up. Engineer #5 and grew it from Seed -> Series A -> Series B as raised close to $35M

1 year at a SF based start-up that just got acquired by IBM. Worked on a plethora of different products, most notable was leading the development of a new data science tool.

6 months at IBM heading a new project for IBM cloud

~6 months internship experience at 2 SF based start-ups. One of which worked directly with Microsoft

GMAT Focus: 655

Extracurriculars: Did a bunch of stuff in Uni but almost nothing outside of that.

Target Schools: NYU Stern Tech MBA, Cornell Tech MBA

Hoping to join 2025.

Hi jasonbritto89,

Your profile is strong, particularly given your experience in the tech industry, especially in the AI and data science domain. Your work experience at startups and a tech giant like IBM is impressive and demonstrates your technical skills and entrepreneurial mindset.

However, given the highly competitive nature of top-tier MBA programs like NYU Stern and Cornell Tech, a GMAT score of 655 might be a limiting factor.

Key Areas to Focus On:
Retake the GMAT: Aim for a score in the 700s to significantly enhance your chances of admission to top-tier programs.
Strengthen Your Essays: Craft compelling essays that highlight your unique experiences, career goals, and fit with the program.
Leverage Your Network: Connect with alumni of your target schools to gain insights and potential mentorship.
Seek Strong Recommendations: Obtain strong letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your leadership abilities, work ethic, and potential.
Target Schools:
While NYU Stern and Cornell Tech are excellent choices, consider exploring other top-tier programs that align with your career goals.

Highlight Your Unique Value Proposition: Clearly articulate your unique strengths and how you can contribute to the program and your future career.

By focusing on these areas and leveraging your strengths, you can increase your chances of admission to top-tier MBA programs. Feel free to schedule a free profile consultation with our MBA experts who will understand your overall profile and help you make sound decisions.

jasonbritto89 - Some thoughts/ clarifications:

1. The undergrad grades and US exposure are strong angles. GMAT score is a bit on the lower side for your target programs. What's the sectional split, and did you score higher in mocks? If so, a retake can help increase chances.

2. Your professional experience is your strongest point, given the entrepreneurship/ tech angles and scale-up journey.

3. What are your career goals post MBA? It'd be crucial to have a strong narrative covering your experiences, goals, and how an MBA fits in.

4. Any recent involvement in extracurriculars (i.e. post uni) would have been great.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out for a deeper chat.

Arvind
