Hi Linebine,

Considering you are targeting top-notch programs in later rounds (and, with an average GMAT score), chances for scholarship are not going to be very high; yes, if you can raise your score to a 675+, you will have a much better chance.

Should you feel the need for a detailed discussion, please feel free to get in touch with us for a free strategy session.

All the best!

Hi,

I'm a Canadian lawyer with six years of experience working at a big law firm. I specialize in intellectual property. I'm interested in applying in European business schools (Oxford, Cambridge, Bocconi, HEC Paris and IESE). My GMAT score is 635. I would like to start the MBA in Fall 2026, so I will be applying in the later rounds for these universities, however I will need some form of funding to attend. I'm wondering whether a 635 GMAT score can be sufficient to receive a scholarship for partial funding of the tuition costs in European universities. Aside from my job, I'm quite involved in social justice initiatives - I don't know if this can play a role. Thanks!

Linebine - Some more details can help assess your profile better e.g. your company, role(s), key achievements, any progressions/ promotions, and more details on extracurriculars (e.g. level and duration of involvement etc.).

Broadly though, a 635 might be on the lower side for most top programs, and hence a retake might be worth considering.

Arvind

We’ve seen that a 635 GMAT Focus (roughly a 690 Classic) is absolutely enough to snag partial funding in Europe, provided you play your cards right. Your six years in Big Law make you a "diversity candidate" for these cohorts. The real gold for you lies in Social Impact scholarships at schools like Oxford Saïd or HEC Paris, where your social justice work carries more weight than a test score. In later rounds, schools are looking to round out their class profile; being a lawyer with a conscience makes you a rare find compared to the usual sea of consultants. Focus your essays on how your legal expertise fuels your social initiatives, and you’ll be a top contender for those 25%–50% tuition waivers.
