"And another" is not inherently redundant. However, here "another one-third" doesn't make sense. We're saying that two thirds of students voted for one thing, and the other one third voted for something else. That's all of the remaining students, and we're not adding the two groups together to get some larger result. We can fix E by using "the other" instead of "another."

We could correctly use "and another" if we were adding two different groups together to get a larger result:

50% of homeowners in the neighborhood have installed solar systems within the past two years, and another 30% say they intend to install solar within the next year, so clearly solar power is a popular option.

about C- I think it's worng because you have "since" and than "so"- Its wrong.
since they voted to the zoo, so the class went to the zoo

D changes the sentence and makes no sense. more than 2/3 - the sentence didnt say more....and more than 2/3 and another 1/3 is over 1...cant be
I answered A and was wrong,
I want to know the difference between another and other, maybe A should have said "the other"
but how another fixes it


after rereading I think the answer is not about another or other but about of the student in E and the students in A...but lets wait for the experts

Arvindsharmanitw, while E has a slight flaw, it's the best we have. A cannot possibly be the answer because it is missing some necessary words. We need to say "Two thirds of the students" and "the other one third."

Hello expert,

why option 'b' is not correct?

According to me, while here represents whereas, so two third of the students voted to visit the zoo whereas another one third voted..

Is my understanding wrong?

Answer A doesn't determine the meaning of the sentence, so "changing" the meaning isn't a problem, as long as the meaning makes sense and seems to fit the author's intent. In this case, it doesn't really, as I've discussed above. E is the best option, but this question is flawed and would not make it on the GMAT.
