In C:The United States has the largest trade deficit of any country on Earth, and consequently, other nations, such as China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase

main points to note are:
comparing trade deficit of US and other countries
Using 'consequently'
Using 'such as'
use simple present 'increase'

Other option fails to use all these.

C is correct

C. The United States has the largest trade deficit of any country on Earth, and consequently, other nations, such as China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase

I'm confused with option C - doesn't it compare USA trade deficit with any country? I meant there is a comparison error. please elaborate with example

There is no comparison here - note that "largest" is not a comparative, but a superlative adjective. A superlative adjective is often used with the preposition "of". Compare the usage in C with the following example:
best of the lot

Nonetheless, I do feel that instead of "any country", "all country" would be better. The usage of superlative is related to a group, not an individual.
Best of all the countries....correct
Best of any country.. questionable

For comparative, "any country" can be used. e.g., better than any country.

The thumbrule is:
Superlative + OF + Group
Comparative + THAN + individual(s)

MAGOOSH Official Explanation

Choice (A) has a wordy indirect opening that is less than ideal. Then, it commits an error involving the structure "with" + [noun] + [participle]. As discussed in this blog, this structure is fine for descriptive detail, but for action by a different actor, as we have in this sentence, this structure puts too much action inside a prepositional phrase. For these reasons, (A) is incorrect.

Choice (B) makes an illogical comparison. It says "the country with the largest trade deficit is that of the United States"--- the "that of" is incorrect, because the United States is a country. It's trade deficit is not a country. Choice (B) is incorrect.

Choice (C) is direct, grammatically correct, and logically clear. This is a promising choice.

In choice (D) the opening comparison is logically correct but a little awkward. More problematic are the two progressive verbs in the second half: this tense is not needed for continuous ongoing events. Choice (D) is incorrect.

Choice (E) takes a hyper dramatic approach which is not warranted by the nature of the subject matter, strategically delaying the statement of the subject. We would do this to build tension to make an emphatic point, but it doesn't make sense in a purely factual statement such as this. For this reason, choice (E) is incorrect.

The only possible answer is (C).

Just extending your explanation, wouldn't it better to say- X is better than any other country.

If I write it- X is better than any country. In this statement I am also comparing X to itself X which is meaningless.
In sum, my point is that while comparing X in a group, it is better to use any other instead of any only.

What's your view, sir?

The largest trade deficit on Earth of any country is that of the United States, with other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently holding stores of US dollars increasing each year.

A. The largest trade deficit on Earth of any country is that of the United States, with other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently holding stores of US dollars increasing ----The adverbial modifier phrase 'with' indicates that the largest trade deficit of the U.S is joining hands with other nations to hold stores of dollars.

B. Of any country on Earth, the country with the largest trade deficit is that of the United States, and as a consequence, other nations, like China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase -- like is plain wrong

C. The United States has the largest trade deficit of any country on Earth, and consequently, other nations, such as China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase -- clear and correct.

D. The United States' trade deficit is the largest of any country's on Earth, but as a consequence, other nations, such as China and Japan, are holding stores of US dollars that are increasing --' of any country's' is double possessive; Also it is a wrong to use present progressive for a perpetual event that happens every year. Simple present is ideal.

E. Of all trade deficits of all countries on Earth, none is larger than the United States', and other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently hold stores of US dollars that increase --- This wrongly implies that there may be other countries whose deficit could be at least as large as the U.S's
daagh Sir, could you please differentiate between "Such as" and "Like"?

[quote="katelyntanglu"]The largest trade deficit on Earth of any country is that of the United States, with other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently holding stores of US dollars increasing each year.

A. The largest trade deficit on Earth of any country is that of the United States, with other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently holding stores of US dollars increasing The comparison seems correct. But, 'with other nations holding...' could be better written with an seperate IC

B. Of any country on Earth, the country with the largest trade deficit is that of the United States, and as a consequence, other nations, like China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase Wrong comparison, country vs. trade deficit.. moreover, 'such as' & not 'like' should be used

C. The United States has the largest trade deficit of any country on Earth, and consequently, other nations, such as China and Japan, hold stores of US dollars that increase Correct

D. The United States' trade deficit is the largest of any country's on Earth, but as a consequence, other nations, such as China and Japan, are holding stores of US dollars that are increasing 'are holding' and ' are increasing' is wrong... Continuous tense is not reqd.

E. Of all trade deficits of all countries on Earth, none is larger than the Unites States', and other nations, such as China and Japan, consequently hold stores of US dollars that increase wordy construction

Could some explain why A&E are both wrong?
