B. spiders that hunt in a thoroughly specialized and unusual environment and feed almost exclusively on - seems okay

C. which means they hunt in a thoroughly specialized and unusual environment, almost exclusively - which refers to a noun "semiacquatic spiders" and can't "mean" anything.

D. which means that their environment is thoroughly specialized, unusual, and it is almost exclusively -- same as C

E. hunting in an environment that is thoroughly specialized, unusual, and they feed on almost exclusively -- parallelism "hunting" and "feed".

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

This sentence uses the singular pronoun "it" to describe the plural "spiders," so (A) is incorrect. 
Choice (B) clearly introduces further information about semiaquatic spiders through the use of "spiders that" and connects to the last part of the sentence as well. 
Choices (C) and (D) makes it sound like the "environment" is "drowning insects," when instead drowning insects are what the spiders eat while they're in this environment. 
Choice (E) ungrammatically tries to make a list of things that can't function as a list "they feed on almost exclusively" is not a description of the environment like "specialized" and "unusual" are, so they can't be included in a list together.

The correct answer is Choice (B)
