can you please explain why B is incorrect?.
I believe its B, because the conclusion rely on the statistics here in concluding the punjab is better than Goa, and B states that the statistics are flawed!!

Would go with 'D'.

A) Health experts do not believe that moving to Punjab will substantially improve the average Goan’s health status.
C) The better health ascribed to Punjab’s current population is mostly due to genetic reasons.
Both A and C talk about the states.. Punjab and Goa... but the conclusion is indicating the culture... i.e. a Punjabi child would have better health index compared to a Goan child

B) The Goan government has alleged that the health statistics given for the state are flawed.- Does not support or refute the conclusion.

D) Forty percent of all Goans are having a health index of more than 1000 points.- Weakens the conclusion by stating that there would be at least one Goan child who would have a better Index than a Punjabi child.

E) Most Punjabis have a diet better than most others across the rest of the country.- Supports the conclusion. Better diet.. better health Index.

OA cannot be C. The question itself says that "child born to a Punjabi" and not "child born in Punjab". B seems correct to me.

On a side note, looking at the English usage in the problem, I do not think this is a GMAT problem.

I think the answer is E. The fact that if a Goan starts eating like a Punjabi,he can improve his health,no matter where he stays. So that argument definitely weakens. Genetics means it is again connected with the natural inhabitants of that place.

According to the World Health Organization, for India as a whole, the average Health Status Index is 550 (a composite index calculated by it), but children born to Punjabis will have an average index of 900, and those born in Goa, 850. If a child is born to a Punjabi, therefore, it would have much better health than if he were born to a Goan.

Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the conclusion drawn in the passage?

(a)Health experts do not believe that moving to Punjab will substantially improve the average Goan’s health status.
(b)The Goan government has alleged that the health statistics given for the state are flawed.
(c)The better health ascribed to Punjab’s current population is mostly due to genetic reasons.
(d)Forty percent of all Goans are having a health index of more than 1000 points.
(e)Most Punjabis have a diet better than most others across the rest of the country.

Conclusion: A Punjabi child would have much better health than if he were born to a Goan.
Evidence: children born to Punjabis will have an average index of 900, and those born in Goa, 850.

The flaw in the reasoning is that an average index of a population is not true for every member of that population. It is not related to diet or genetics or anything else.
Choice D clearly reveals this. If D is true the child could easily have a better Health Status Index if he were a Goan than a Punjabi.

C is incorrect because, it's not mentioned that the new child would born out of the state of Punjab. He may very well be born in an indigenous Punjabi family.

Thanks.

Can Someone explain whys Option B is Incorrect and how Option is correct choice for this question.

I picked D because it weakens the conclusion.

I'm new to GmatClub. Should I assume all the OA posted as correct?

Thanks in advance.

(b)The Goan government has alleged that the health statistics given for the state are flawed.
Wrong: It could be -ve or +ve means the stats could be more than 850 or less than 850

(c)The better health ascribed to Punjab’s current population is mostly due to genetic reasons.
Does not weakens: premise says children born to punjab people but not the children born in Punjab

(d)Forty percent of all Goans are having a health index of more than 1000 points.
This at least is correct answers specifies the reasoning could be wrong and weakens

I think there might be something wrong with this question, cause I found it in another platform and the last sentence is 【If a child is born in Punjab, therefore, it would have much better health than if it were born in Goa.】
And "born to" is quite different in meaning from "born in", if the conclusion sentence were changed to "born in", that would be much sensible and OA should be C in this case

In some language context, "being born to" equals "genetic".
But here in English, "being born to" means "being raised".
