It was well known, however, that Burke’s environmental policy coincided with the interests of the country’s most dangerous polluter, whereas Adler proposed a policy of strict environmental regulation.

As this is a CR Question, lets read the question stem first. So the question here is asking – which option most strongly supported by the information in the passage.
Now, let’s understand the passage:
• In recent election, voters chose Adler over Burke.
• Bruke: Offered more effective strategies, long record of successful govt. service.
• However, his environmental policies were not in the interest of the country and Adler’s environmental policies that strictly supported the environment
From the below options lets choose the one which is supported by these points.
(A) Throughout their respective political careers, Adler has been more committed to taking measures to protect the country’s environment than Burke has been.
- With the given information, we cannot predict Alder’s political career, hence this option becomes irrelevant
(B) Voters realized that their country’s natural resources are rapidly being depleted.
- Though this option may sound tempting, kindly note there is no information provided on – Natural resources and his this option is irrelevant too.
(C) The concern of the country’s voters for the environment played an important role in Adler’s election.
- Sounds like a good choice, reason is if you try to negate this option – environment DID NOT play an important factor in the election, then the entire purpose of the last line of the passage is diminished. Irrespective of Bruke having a successful track record and other achievements, only because of his environmental policies he was not chosen by the voters.
(D) Offering effective strategies for dealing with a country’s problems is more important in winning an election than having a long record of successful government service.
