Seniors with close family ties are far more likely to die immediately after a large family gathering than immediately before, according to research studies. Experimenters concluded that the will to live can extend life, at least for short periods.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the experimenters’ conclusion?

A. Seniors with close family ties anticipate large family gatherings more than anything else and are less likely to die immediately before such gatherings than at any other time.
B. Seniors with close family ties fear dying less than other seniors do.
C. Some seniors who have close family ties live much longer than the majority of seniors who do not.
D. Most seniors who attend family gatherings do so for somewhat different purposes than younger attendees.
E. The spring and fall, which have lower death rates for seniors, are the times when many families schedule large gatherings.

In summary, the original argument says, whether seniors can extend their life for short period as a result of their willingness to live longer.

A - Correct answer. Strengthens the argument. If given sentence is true, senior with close family ties are able to live a short time longer with anticipation.
B - talks about fear no mention of will so irrelevant.
C - Makes a generalized statement. There are many other possible reasons for the longevity of seniors with close family ties.
D - Talks about purpose. No mention of living longer so irrelevant to the original argument.
E - No mention of short periods. Seasons are irrelevant to the original argument.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the experimenters’ conclusion?

A. Seniors with close family ties anticipate large family gatherings more than anything else and are less likely to die immediately before such gatherings than at any other time. -Correct. The will to live is connected to family functions appropriately in this option
B. Seniors with close family ties fear dying less than other seniors do. -fear?
C. Some seniors who have close family ties live much longer than the majority of seniors who do not. -living longer is out of scope. The extension of life for short term is the concern
D. Most seniors who attend family gatherings do so for somewhat different purposes than younger attendees. -purpose?
E. The spring and fall, which have lower death rates for seniors, are the times when many families schedule large gatherings. -Close, but not correct. We don't see any will to live in this option that might help in SHORT TERM increase in life

Reject the answer choices rather than select a correct one

CONCLUSION - Will to live is responsible for longer life..

A. Seniors with close family ties anticipate large family gatherings more than anything else and are less likely to die immediately before such gatherings than at any other time. Left with A and correct one

B. Seniors with close family ties fear dying less than other seniors do. Fear dying is not will to live, Can't strengthen the relationship.

C. Some seniors who have close family ties live much longer than the majority of seniors who do not. This one again weakens the conclusion, Its not the WILL POWER but its the close family ties which is responsible for longer life

D. Most seniors who attend family gatherings do so for somewhat different purposes than younger attendees. What is different purpose?OFS

E. The spring and fall, which have lower death rates for seniors, are the times when many families schedule large gatherings.: this one is weakening the conclusion, its not the WILL POWER to live rather than the the weather in which they meet is responsible for the death

E. The spring and fall, which have lower death rates for seniors, are the times when many families schedule large gatherings.

The first sentence tells us that seniors don't die before family gatherings, and the second concludes that the will to live extended their life. Clearly, the conncetion being made is that the seniors greatly wanted to attend the family gathering - which is exactly what A tells us.

By process of elimination:
A -
B - not clear how this is relevant to the conclusion one way or another...
C - It isn't clear how this related to the fact of seniors who do have close ties dying after, and not before, family gatherings
D - the young attendees aren't relevant
E - This could weaken the conclusion - perhaps there's something about these seasons that affects their health?

A tough one. Correct Answer here is A. Explanation below:

Situation: Senior with close family ties dies immediately after long family gathering than immediately before. Experimenters concluded that the will to live can extend life only for shorter periods.

Conclusion: Which of the statements would strengthen the experimenters argument? Because seniors with close family ties tend to wait for the large family gathering to happen their will to live extends for that time than the other. If there aren't any large gathering the seniors with close family ties are not willing to live longer. Hence the Statement A correctly justifies the argument.

I never believe topics in gmat can be anything. The argument in this question is bazaar.
A is the answer b/c it connects directly with the argument.
Also, by elimination, B,C,D,E talk about irrelevant things.
