A recent epidemiological study found that businesspeople who travel internationally on business are much more likely to suffer from chronic insomnia than are businesspeople who do not travel on business. International travelers experience the stresses of dramatic changes in climate, frequent disruption of daily routines, and immersion in cultures other than their own, stresses not commonly felt by those who do not travel. Thus, it is likely that these stresses cause the insomnia.

Which one of the following would, if true, most strengthen the reasoning above?

(A) Most international travel for the sake of business occurs between countries with contiguous borders.
(B) Some businesspeople who travel internationally greatly enjoy the changes in climate and immersion in another culture.
(C) Businesspeople who already suffer from chronic insomnia are no more likely than businesspeople who do not to accept assignments from their employers that require international travel.
(D) Experiencing dramatic changes in climate and disruption of daily routines through international travel can be beneficial to some people who suffer from chronic insomnia.
(E) Some businesspeople who once traveled internationally but no longer do so complain of various sleep-related ailments.

In C , do the negation test, then u will understand the answer. If the people who travel internationally are already suffering from insomnia, then the statement has flaw because these people who are suffering from insomnia have faced this from other reason, not from the international travel. In E, it's stated that SOME businessmen- for just SOME people it doesn't affect the data largely;May be these SOME people are more prone to insomnia genetically.

In other case even some could strengthen as some is more than none, so it has impact

Hi. Can you please explain in detail how you arrive at your choice, that C is right? How do you use the "negation" test in this specific example?

The statement should strengthen the given argument

Which one of the following would, if true, most strengthen the reasoning above?

(A) Most international travel for the sake of business occurs between countries with contiguous borders.Irrelevant
(B) Some businesspeople who travel internationally greatly enjoy the changes in climate and immersion in another culture.weaken rather than strengthen
(C) Businesspeople who already suffer from chronic insomnia are no more likely than businesspeople who do not to accept assignments from their employers that require international travel.this strengthen that the likelhood of ppl suffering from chronic insomnia are no more likely to suffer it. Hence it supports
(D) Experiencing dramatic changes in climate and disruption of daily routines through international travel can be beneficial to some people who suffer from chronic insomnia.weaken
(E) Some businesspeople who once traveled internationally but no longer do so complain of various sleep-related ailments.no effect
i dont get it.
if people with insomnia and people who dont travel for business are both similarly likely to being affective, how does it strengthen the argument?

Problem with E (imo) is 'some businessmen' may already have chronic insomnia even before the travel and not necessarily acquire it because of the travel.

I don't know if that's overthinking but 'sleep-related ailments' need not necessarily mean chronic insomnia.

(I could be way off here)

Answer C

Explanation - There are 2 types of business people mentioned and compared in this option. Both of them will NOT develop a new / increased rate of insomnia.
The 2nd category of business people strengthens the argument.

Let’s see how.

1 - Business people who already suffer from Insomnia - Since they already suffer, there is no chance of developing a new insomnia when there is already an existing insomnia.

2 - Business people who do not travel overseas - Here, the option states that these people will NOT develop new insomnia because they do not travel and hence do not have stress ('stress' which will eventually convert to insomnia). This point hence strengthens that travel leads to stress which leads to insomnia.

I felt option C is an assumption, and I get why it is correct. However, it seems more like an assumption.
