Sam: Statistics show that hospital patients who have no health insurance generally get fewer diagnostic procedures and leave the hospital sooner than do patients who are insured. People without insurance are obviously not being cared for properly.

Dan: On the contrary, what your statistics show is that people insist on undergoing all sorts of unnecessary procedures when they know that someone else is footing the bill.

Which of the following best describes Dan's response to Sam?

(A) He denies the truth of Sam's statistical evidence.
Incorrect - Dan doesn't deny the statistical evidence, he only gives a different reasoning for the same evidence

(B) He shows that Sam's argument is based on insufficient evidence.
Incorrect - Dan agrees with the evidence but not with the reasoning

(C) He provides counterevidence that contradicts that cited by Sam.
Incorrect - Dan doesn't provide any new evidence

(D) He shows that Sam's argument is biased because of an unfair preconception.
Incorrect - There is no preconception nor is there any bias.

(E) He provides an alternative explanation for the facts cited by Sam.
Correct - He agrees with the evidence but provides an alternative argument/reasoning
