Since Mario was 32 years old 8 years ago, then he's 32 + 8 = 40 years old now. Therefore, x years ago he was 40 - x years old.

If Mario's current age is M, then Mario's age 8 years ago = M-8;
Here, M-8 = 32; therefore, M=40 (Mario's current age)
His age x years ago means M-x or 40-x;
