Sorry, but how did we know that x is 2? I got y = 12 and figured the answer choice had to be divisible by 2, but that was out of panic guessing
sananoor
In the multiplication table above, each number in the table is the product of the terms at the top of its column and the left of its row. What is the value of xy?

(A) 15
(B) 16
(C) 21
(D) 24
(E) 27

I have no idea if such questions appear in real exam, but i am posting it because somehow i find it useful and interesting.

x is not 2.

The top-left “x” is the multiplication sign, not a variable.

The x in the middle of the table is the variable, and since it sits in the row labeled 2 and the column labeled s, it equals 2*s.

I see where I made a mistake, but now I'm wondering if I just got lucky with the answer choices. My thought process was to find the values of all the letters based on their factors and got S = 1 so the value of x would be 2*1 = 2. I also got T = 3 and B = 4 so y would be 4*3 = 12. Then x*y would be 12*2 = 24 (I see now that I was looking at the multiplication sign and not the x in the middle of the chart, thanks). Is this still a good way to solve the problem (ignoring the fact that it's less efficient)?
