At a special sale, S tickets can be purchased for the price of 3 tickets. If 5 tickets are purchased at this sale, the amount saved will be what percent of the original price of the 5 tickets?

(A) \(20\)%
(B) \(33 \frac{1}{3}\)%
(C) \(40\)%
(D) \(60\)%
(E) \(66 \frac{2}{3}\)%

Dear Moderator ,
Just found this question, there seems to be a typo here , the variable "s" has been used instead of the number "5", leading to immense confusion, hope you will look into this and do the needful. Thank you.

Let the original price of each ticket be 100

Original price of 5 tickets = 500

5 tickets were obtained for the price of 3 tickets

Actual price of 5 tickets = 300

Savings = 200

Percentage Savings = (200/500) * 100 = 40%

let price of a ticket be $10

Price of 5 tickets = $50

Now i can get 5 at the price of 3 which will be $30

Money saved = 50 -30 =20

the amount saved
20= x/100 *50 = 40 %

Normal price for 3 tickets be 15 , So Normal Price per ticket is 5
Discounted price for 5 tickets be 15 , So Discounted Price per ticket is 3

So, percentage saved is \(\frac{2}{5}*100 = 40\), Answer must be (C)

What percentage represents the amount I saved to the original cost?

Say each ticket costs $1. The answer is 5-3/5 = 40%

They are asking for profit %
Here the profit made is 2 tickets. So applying profit formula : (P/CP)*100 = (2/5)*100 =40%
