In an election between two candidates, one got 52% of total valid votes. 25% of the total votes were invalid. The total number of votes were 8400. How many valid votes did the other person get?

A. 3276
B. 3196
C. 3024
D. 3296
E. 3096
Solution:

Since 25% of the 8400 votes were invalid, 8400 x 0.25 = 2100 of the votes were invalid and therefore, 6300 of the votes were valid. Since one candidate got 52% of the total valid votes, the other candidate got 48% of total valid votes, or 6300 x 0.48 = 3,024.
